Hanoi City and Bac Ninh Province have agreed on a plan to build a nearly 50km route, of which the length of the route through the capital is more than 28km, connecting Gia Binh Airport (Bac Ninh Province) with the city center.

The Office of the Hanoi People's Committee issued Notice No. 57/TB-VP on the conclusion of Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan on the plan to build a road connecting Gia Binh airport ( Bac Ninh province) with Hanoi city in the capital.

Accordingly, implementing the Central Government's direction on the investment policy to build a route connecting Gia Binh airport (Bac Ninh province) with Hanoi capital, the Hanoi People's Committee assigned the Department of Planning and Architecture to preside over and coordinate with departments, branches, units, and Bac Ninh province and the Transport Design Consulting Corporation - TEDI (the unit assigned by the Ministry of Transport to study the plan) to study the options for building the route.

Hanoi People's Committee basically agreed on the route plan connecting Gia Binh airport (Bac Ninh province) to the city center (the route section in Hanoi city - option 1 according to the proposal of the Department of Planning and Architecture).

Specifically, the total length of the Bac Ninh-Hanoi route is 49.52km, of which the length of the section passing through Hanoi is 28.58km, including 8.06km of the newly built section and the section coinciding with the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen expressway/ring road 3, Tu Lien bridge road is about 20.54km long.

The project is in line with the orientation in the Master Plan for Hanoi Capital Construction to 2030, with a vision to 2050; Adjustment of the Master Plan for Hanoi Capital to 2045, with a vision to 2065 that has been approved, ensuring connection with the network of traffic routes identified in approved planning projects such as Ring Road 3, National Highway 5, Giang Bien Bridge-Vinh Tuy-Ring Road 2, Ha Huy Tap Street...

The Hanoi People's Committee and the Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee agreed that the entire route from Gia Binh airport to the center of Hanoi city has a cross-section scale of 100-120m (choosing 120m to match the scale of Bac Ninh province, which is expected to be adjusted from 142m to 120m) and expanding the research on urban development space along both sides of the road from 300-400m.

In particular, the two provinces/cities agreed to propose a study on an urban railway route along the route connecting Gia Binh airport to the center of Hanoi (section in Hanoi).

Gia Binh Airport is located in Xuan Lai Commune and Gia Binh Town, Gia Binh District, Bac Ninh Province, with an area of ​​about 125 hectares. The Ministry of Public Security started construction in early December 2024 and is expected to complete by the end of this year. This will be a level 3 helicopter airport, level 3 military, and level 3C civil equivalent according to ICAO standards.

Recently, the Ministry of Transport has decided to adjust Gia Binh airport into an international airport with a scale of level 4E, with an expected land area of ​​about 363.5 hectares.

Accordingly, by 2030, Gia Binh airport will have an expected design capacity of about 1 million passengers/year and a vision to 2050 of about 3 million passengers/year. The estimated investment cost according to the plan is about 17,682 billion VND for the period from 2021 - 2030 and about 12,083 billion VND for the vision to 2050.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Gia Binh airport, in addition to its main function as a base for the People's Public Security Air Force Regiment, was also decided by the Prime Minister to be invested in with the goal of being a reserve for airports in the region when conditions are met.

Upgrading Gia Binh airport into an international airport will contribute to promoting commercial production, e-commerce, freight transport and developing logistics centers, creating momentum to promote socio-economic development.

When converted into an international airport, this airport will ensure the operation of special flights serving Party and State leaders visiting and working in localities, countries and territories around the world; ensuring the reception and service of all special flights of heads of state when visiting and working in Vietnam.

In necessary cases, Gia Binh airport can serve flight activities related to medical emergencies, rescue, etc.
