The 2026 AFC U17 Championship qualifiers will be held in a completely new format. A total of 38 teams will be divided into 7 groups, including 3 groups of 6 teams and 4 groups of 5 teams. Only the top team in each group will qualify directly for the final round. In addition, 9 teams have secured their places thanks to their performance in the 2025 AFC U17 Championship and the host Qatar, bringing the total number of participating teams to 16.

U17 Vietnam is in Group C, which brings together many familiar opponents such as Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong (China), Macau (China) and the Northern Mariana Islands.

The AFC awarding the right to host the group stage to Vietnam is a great advantage, as the whole team will play on familiar fields at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center and PVF from November 22 to 30, 2025.

Before entering the tournament, U17 Vietnam had an important training trip in Japan, playing three quality friendly matches: winning U18 Imabari 2-0, drawing 1-1 with Matsuyama University and losing 1-2 to U18 Ehime. These matches helped the team gain experience, test tactics and improve their physical strength.

In the opening match on November 22 at PVF Stadium, U17 Vietnam met Singapore - an opponent considered to be of equal strength to open a favorable start.

It is known that all matches of Group C of the 2026 AFC U17 qualifiers will be broadcast live on VFF Media and FPT Play.
