Queue 2-3 hours waiting to reach the top of Fansipan

With favorable weather, tens of thousands of tourists flocked to Sa Pa on New Year's Eve, causing Fansipan peak to be packed with people waiting in line.

Ms. Pham Doan (Hai Duong) and her husband traveled to Sapa from December 29 to January 1, 2024. She said that this morning she had to wait more than two hours to "settle in the cable car" to reach the top of Fansipan. Even to go to the toilet, she had to queue.

However, she said the temperature in Sa Pa is about 15 - 17 degrees Celsius, the weather is sunny and beautiful, so it's worth waiting in line.

Tourist Mai Anh, from Hanoi , said that last New Year's Eve she had to wait in line for 2-3 hours to get on the cable car. This year she was not surprised by the crowded scene.

"I know for sure there will be crowds, but because I work in an office, my family can only go out on holidays and Tet," she said, adding that she "doesn't feel uncomfortable waiting."

A representative of Sun World Fansipan Legend tourist area said that on the first day of the New Year holiday, thousands of visitors came to Fansipan, 2.5 times higher than the number of visitors last week. It is expected that the number of visitors in the last two days of the holiday will increase 4 times compared to normal days.

Ms. Mai Trang, head of sales at a travel company based in Hanoi, said that in addition to the cable car ticket to Fansipan peak, some sightseeing programs in Sa Pa that are booked a lot by customers during this time include cloud hunting activities at cafes and tourist areas such as Best View Sapa, tickets to go to the glass bridge, and exploring Hau Thao commune and Cat Cat village.

According to the Department of Culture and Information of Sa Pa town, the town is expected to welcome an average of 30,000 tourists per day during the New Year holiday. As the holiday approaches, tourists have begun to flock to Sa Pa. As of December 29, accommodation facilities in the area are almost fully booked. Hotels in the 4-5 star luxury segment are 98% booked, mid-range 2-3 star hotels are 92% booked, and economy hotels are 85% booked.

Sa Pa town currently has over 700 accommodation establishments with more than 8,000 rooms, 283 food service establishments and a chain of souvenir and gift service establishments, check-in service points, ensuring to meet the needs of dining, relaxation and sightseeing experiences of tourists.

Many accommodation establishments said that December 30-31 were the peak days, and on January 1, room occupancy dropped by nearly 50% as guests began checking out to end their vacation.
