Remove the position of Chairman of the People's Council of Quang Ngai province from Mr. Le Viet Chu

On behalf of the National Assembly Standing Committee, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man signed and issued Resolution No. 1064 on disciplinary action against Mr. Le Viet Chu, former Chairman of the People's Council of Quang Ngai province.

The Resolution clearly states that the disciplinary action in the form of removing the position of Chairman of the People's Council of Quang Ngai province for the 2011 - 2026 term against Mr. Le Viet Chu is due to violations and shortcomings in his work and the Party Central Committee has taken disciplinary action against him; the disciplinary action period is calculated from the date of announcement of Decision No. 1212, dated April 26, 2024 of the Party Central Committee.

This Resolution takes effect from the date of signing and promulgation. The Head of the Delegation Work Committee, the Standing Committee of the People's Council of Quang Ngai province and Mr. Le Viet Chu are responsible for implementing this Resolution.

Previously, on March 27, 2024, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency (C03) issued a Decision to prosecute, an Order to temporarily detain, and a Search Warrant against Mr. Le Viet Chu, former Vice Chairman, former Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and former Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee.

According to the Investigation Agency, Mr. Le Viet Chu was arrested for the crime of "Receiving bribes", stipulated in Clause 4, Article 354 of the Penal Code.

The Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency determined that: During the performance of his duties, defendant Le Viet Chu received money from Nguyen Van Hau to facilitate Phuc Son Group Joint Stock Company to win the bid for the "Construction of the main route of the South bank road project of Tra Khuc River, Quang Ngai province".

Mr. Le Viet Chu is the 6th former official of Quang Ngai province to be arrested in the case related to tycoon Hau "Phao" (Phuc Son Group case).

Previously, Mr. Dang Van Minh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province and Mr. Cao Khoa, former Chairman of the People's Committee of the province, along with three people, former Deputy Directors and heads of departments of this locality, were also temporarily detained.

Mr. Le Viet Chu (61 years old, from Hanh Thinh commune, Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai). He holds the position of Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee for the 2015-2020 term.

Before holding the position of Provincial Party Secretary, Mr. Chu held the positions of Director of the Department of Transport, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Ngai province, Secretary of the Quang Ngai City Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Deputy Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee.

On May 3, 2020, the Central Inspection Committee issued a communique on the 44th session and Mr. Le Viet Chu was determined to have "committed many serious violations and shortcomings in leadership, direction, implementation of land management and use, budget finance, investment projects and personnel work", negatively affecting the reputation of local Party committees and authorities, to the point of having to consider disciplinary action.

On June 16, 2020, the Politburo disciplined Mr. Le Viet Chu with a warning. Then, on June 23, 2020, Mr. Le Viet Chu submitted his resignation as Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee.

On April 26, the Central Executive Committee decided to discipline Mr. Le Viet Chu by expelling him from the Party .
