Dr. Truong Hong Son, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Applied Medicine, advises:
Sticky rice is a high-energy and nutritious food; however, if you are trying to lose weight, you should limit your consumption of sticky rice.
Amylopectin is an insoluble carbohydrate and is abundant in sticky rice. This substance causes blood sugar levels to rise. Eating too much is not good and can lead to hyperglycemia.
The most common side effects of eating too much sticky rice are constipation, bloating, indigestion, and heartburn.
On average, a packet of sticky rice can provide about 600 calories, while a bowl of regular rice only has 130 calories, and a bowl of pho contains about 400 calories. Therefore, you need to limit the number of times you eat sticky rice per week. You should only eat sticky rice no more than twice a week, and only in moderate amounts each time.
To ensure adequate nutrition, people should combine sticky rice with other foods such as meat, beans, eggs, and vegetables to provide the body with all the necessary nutrients.
Eating slowly and chewing thoroughly before swallowing helps food digest more easily. This also helps prevent choking and reduces the risk of constipation.
Do not eat sticky rice that is wrapped directly in newspaper containing many impurities and synthetic chemicals, especially ink with a high lead content, which is very dangerous to consume.
People who should limit their consumption of sticky rice:
- For those who want to lose weight: Sticky rice is very high in calories and starch, so consuming large amounts of these substances, especially in dishes made from rice like sticky rice or regular rice, makes weight loss more difficult.
People who need to lose weight are advised to eat light breakfasts and add a glass of warm water to help them feel full and have enough energy for the day.
- People who already have stomach problems should avoid eating sticky rice in the morning, as it can worsen their digestive issues. Although glutinous rice is generally considered a harmless ingredient, when processed into sticky rice...
This is also a food that is difficult to digest, easily causing an increase in stomach acid, making people with digestive problems prone to reflux, belching, heartburn, and discomfort.
- People with a naturally hot constitution may experience acne and rashes if they eat sticky rice regularly. To reduce this, they should eat sticky rice with cooling foods such as pennywort, lemon, or tea.
