Total coffee exports in the first nine months of 2024 reached 1.1 million tons, with a value of $4.31 billion, a decrease in volume but an increase in value compared to 2023.
The average export price in the first nine months of the year was $3,896 per ton, a 56% increase compared to the previous year. September recorded the highest average export price ever at $5,469 per ton.
The EU continues to be Vietnam's largest coffee export market, accounting for 39% of total volume and 38% of total value, with 431,231 tons and nearly $1.64 billion. Although coffee exports to countries such as Germany, Italy, Belgium, and France decreased due to supply constraints, the value still increased.
Global coffee prices fell, despite news from the ICO about record export levels. In the first 11 months, global coffee exports reached 110 million bags, reflecting abundant supply. Global Robusta coffee exports increased 5.6% year-on-year, with Brazil, India, and Indonesia being major contributors.
Robusta coffee exports from these three countries increased by 36% year-on-year in August 2024. Vietnam's coffee exports decreased by 12.1%, to only 24.09 million bags, indicating a real decline in supply.
Despite a decrease in export volume, the increase in coffee export prices helped Vietnam achieve record revenue of $4 billion in the first nine months of the year.
Although Vietnam's coffee exports decreased in volume during the first nine months of 2024, the export value increased thanks to higher average coffee prices. The EU remains the largest export market, while global coffee prices have fallen due to abundant supply.
