5.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in Dien Bien

(PLVN) - An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale just occurred in Muong Cha district, Dien Bien province.

According to information from the Earthquake Observation Station of the Institute of Geophysics in Dien Bien Phu city, at 11:17 a.m. today (May 16), an earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale occurred in Muong Cha district.

It is known that the epicenter of the earthquake was determined at coordinates 21.747 degrees North latitude and 103.192 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of about 10km in Muong Cha district. The earthquake was assessed by the Institute of Geophysics at level 2 natural disaster risk.

Many people in Muong Cha district, Dien Bien Phu city and neighboring districts clearly felt the shaking of their houses and household items when the earthquake occurred.

There have been no reports of damage to people or property, but authorities are continuing to monitor and update developments to issue timely warnings if there are further aftershocks.
