Association of Processing and Export seafood Vietnam (VASEP) said that in terms of consumption markets, pangasius exports to the European Union (EU) continued to maintain a growth rate of 9%, with a value of 16 million USD in April. The Netherlands remains the country that imports the most and most stable Vietnamese pangasius products in the bloc. In the first 4 months of the year, pangasius exports to the Netherlands reached 17 million USD, up 15% over the same period.
Meanwhile, China and Hong Kong (China) continue to affirm themselves as the number 1 market for pangasius consumption in Vietnam. In April alone, pangasius exports to this market reached more than 44 million USD, up 7% over the same period in 2024. The total export value of pangasius to China and Hong Kong (China) in the first 4 months of the year reached more than 149 million USD, down 2% over the same period.
In April, the US continued to hold the second position (after China) in the list of countries importing the most Vietnamese pangasius, although the export value decreased by 15% compared to the same period, reaching 40 million USD. The total export value of pangasius to the US in the first 4 months of the year reached 101 million USD, down 2% compared to the same period.
Brazil remains a strong single market for pangasius products from Vietnam, especially frozen pangasius fillets. In April 2025, pangasius exports to this South American country reached 15 million USD, up 9% over the same period in 2024. By the end of April, pangasius exports to Brazil reached 63 million USD, up 67% over the same period.
Thailand is the fourth largest single market for Vietnamese pangasius. Pangasius exports to this country in April reached 5 million USD, up 5% year-on-year, bringing the total pangasius export value in the first 4 months of the year to 25 million USD, up 18% year-on-year.
VASEP believes that to proactively respond to global trade fluctuations, Vietnamese seafood processing and exporting enterprises need to continue to promote exports, while actively diversifying markets and expanding exports of other white fish products such as tilapia and red tilapia.
