Pangasius and tuna exports expected to grow

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), pangasius exports in October reached 189 million USD, a slight increase of 5% over the same period in 2022. Accordingly, by the end of October, pangasius exports reached over 1.5 billion USD, down 28% over the same period last year.

Tuna and crab exports in October showed a more positive trend with double-digit growth, up 13% and 40% year-on-year, respectively, reaching 87 million USD and 28 million USD. By the end of October, tuna brought in 704 million USD in foreign currency, down 20%, and crab brought in 164 million USD, down 12% compared to the same period last year.

In the first eight months of this year, China imported 11,900 tons of pangasius from Vietnam, down 41% from the same period last year. However, sales of breaded pangasius fillets are still increasing, as the product appears increasingly on restaurant menus in northern China at $5.47-6.83 per serving.

Vietnam's rice exports flourish

By the end of October 2023, Vietnam exported 7.1 million tons of rice with a value of about 3.97 billion USD, up 17% in volume and 34.9% in value over the same period in 2022. The average export price is estimated at 558 USD/ton, up 15.3% over the same period in 2022.

In the first 9 months of 2023, the Philippines continued to be Vietnam's largest rice import market, reaching nearly 2.5 million tons, accounting for 38.1% of total rice exports, up 0.8%; Indonesia ranked second, reaching 884.3 thousand tons, accounting for 13.7% of the country's total rice exports (a sudden increase of nearly 17 times in volume and turnover); China - a strong growth market, reaching nearly 860 thousand tons, accounting for over 13.4%, up 41.1%...

Ranked 2nd in the world , footwear exports in September earned more than 1.33 billion USD

According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's footwear exports in September 2023 earned more than 1.33 billion USD, down 22.2% compared to the previous month. By the end of September, this item earned 14.6 billion USD, down 19.1% compared to the same period in 2022.

The US, China, and Belgium are the three largest markets for Vietnamese footwear. In September, footwear exports to the US earned more than 475 million USD, down 32% compared to August. Thus, in the first 9 months of the year, footwear exports to the US earned more than 5.23 billion USD, down 32% compared to the same period in 2022.

Ranked second is the Chinese market, this country spent more than 107 million USD importing Vietnamese footwear in September 2023, down 51% compared to August. In the first 9 months of the year, exports of this item to the billion-people market earned more than 1.35 billion USD, up 10.3% over the same period.

Bright spot of import and export at the end of the year

The latest updated data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade shows that the total import-export turnover of goods in October is estimated at 61.62 billion USD, up 4.1% over the previous month and up 5.6% over the same period last year.

In 10 months, total import-export turnover of goods is estimated at 557.95 billion USD, down 9.6% over the same period last year.

Regarding goods exports, after a decline in goods export turnover in September (down 6.3%), goods export turnover in October regained growth momentum, estimated at 32.3 billion USD, up 5.3% over the previous month.

In the first 10 months of 2023, the export turnover of goods is estimated at 291.28 billion USD, down 7.1% over the same period last year, showing that the decline in export growth has narrowed significantly compared to the 12% decrease in the first half of 2023.

In the first 10 months of 2023, seafood exports earned nearly 7.5 billion USD

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, seafood exports in October 2023 are estimated to reach over 863 million USD, down slightly by 5% compared to the same period in 2022. By the end of October this year, seafood exports earned nearly 7.5 billion USD, down 20% compared to the same period last year.

By the end of October 2023, shrimp accounted for 38% of seafood export turnover with a value of over 2.8 billion USD, down 24% compared to the same period last year. In October alone, shrimp exports reached about 320 million USD, down 11% compared to October 2022.
