Italy holds state funeral for late Prime Minister Berlusconi

The funeral was held at Milan Cathedral, while flags were flown at half-mast across the country.

According to AFP, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Mr. Berlusconi was "a true friend", and said that his death was "an irreparable loss and a great sadness". Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that Mr. Berlusconi was "one of the most influential men in Italy".

According to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Mr Berlusconi is remembered for his dedicated service to Italy. For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron said Mr Berlusconi was "a major figure of contemporary Italy", while British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said Mr Berlusconi had a major impact on Italian politics for decades.

The White House sent its condolences and said Mr. Berlusconi had worked with many US administrations to promote bilateral relations.
