My journey into bodybuilding began.
Ya Ly (born in 1996), a strongman, is from Ma Danh village, Don Duong commune, Lam Dong province. This is a remote village inhabited by ethnic minorities, where the majority of the residents are Churu people who make a living by growing rice, coffee, and commercial vegetables. In recent years, the lives of the villagers have improved significantly.
Born into a farming family, he always strived in his studies and graduated from university with a degree in Information Technology. He has two siblings; his younger sister is currently a kindergarten teacher. Although initially destined for an office job, a turning point in his life led this Churu man to bodybuilding, opening up a journey of achieving many memorable accomplishments.
While studying Information Technology at Da Lat University, Ya Ly proactively learned English and worked as a tour guide whenever he had the opportunity. After graduating in 2018, he moved to Ho Chi Minh City to work in software marketing. However, after more than three years in an office job, health problems caused by frequent computer use led him to decide to pursue a different career path.
In late 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, Ya Ly returned to his hometown in Don Duong. During this time, he resumed bodybuilding – a sport he had been involved in since his student years.
In 2022, as life gradually returned to normal, Ya Ly went to Da Lat to continue training and coaching bodybuilders. Recognizing his talent and dedication, Mr. Tran Phuoc Toan - a coach and owner of a gym in Da Lat - introduced Ya Ly to the Lam Dong Bodybuilding Team. From there, the young Churu man officially embarked on his professional competitive career and continuously achieved success at national competitions.

The journey to conquer the national gold medal.
From his first silver medal at the 2022 National Bodybuilding Club Championship in Da Lat, Ya Ly has consistently won medals at this competition year after year. After a bronze medal in 2023, silver medals in 2024 and 2025, he successfully changed the color of his medal by winning the gold medal in the 75 kg weight category at the 33rd National Bodybuilding Club Championship in 2026, also held in Da Lat.
Ya Lý is a promising athlete on the team. She is always diligent in training, ambitious, and eager to learn. The gold medal at the recent National Bodybuilding Club Championship is a well-deserved reward. Later this year, Ya Lý will continue to be part of the Lam Dong Bodybuilding team at the National Sports Games.
Mr. Phu Tuong Linh, Head Coach of the Lam Dong Bodybuilding and Fitness Team
"I guess I'm lucky with the medals, because I win one every year," Ya Ly said with a smile.
To date, everything is going very well for this Churu man, as Ya Ly shared. Bodybuilding has not only brought him medals but also opened up career opportunities and a stable life. As a member of the Lam Dong Bodybuilding team, he receives financial support for training and has an environment to develop his skills. In addition, his work as a bodybuilding coach provides him with a good income and allows him to pursue his passion in the long term.
"The current societal demand is huge. Gyms and fitness clubs are always in need of trainers, while many people also want to train with a personal trainer. Perhaps I won't go back to my office job," Ya Ly shared with a smile.
What makes Ya Ly happiest is that his journey has inspired many young people in Ma Danh village. To date, many young Churu men in the village have turned to bodybuilding, diligently practicing and improving their health following in his footsteps.
