On the evening of April 28, Ho Chi Minh City held a rehearsal for a light show using 10,500 drones. As one of the special events in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, the drone show was prepared in advance to ensure technical issues.

According to Tuoi Tre Online , many people were present early at convenient locations to watch the drone performance. The cool, rain-free weather created favorable conditions for people to participate in activities taking place simultaneously on Nguyen Hue walking street. The closer the performance time, the more people flocked to the Saigon River area.

At 8:40 p.m., the show began. Throughout the show, 10,500 drones continuously formed historical images showing the city's development, such as the image of tank number 390 crashing into the main gate of the Independence Palace, an image of Uncle Ho, an image of metro line 1, and the logo commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.

After today's rehearsal, the official performance will take place at 8:30 p.m. on May 1. The program will be submitted by the organizers to set a Vietnamese record for the largest number of drones flying at one time. As of October 2024, the Guinness record for the largest number of drones flying in the sky controlled by a computer and the largest aerial image created by drones was set in China with 10,200 drones.

The performance will be held on the Saigon River and both banks of the river in Thu Duc city and District 1. People can gather on both banks of the Saigon River at Bach Dang wharf and Thu Thiem riverside park to have the best viewing position.
