The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) has just issued Decision No. 1235/QD-BKHCN approving the list of national-level S&T tasks ordered under the Program "Research, development and application of space science and technology", code KC.13/21-30, to organize selection and implementation in the coming time.

Specifically, the tasks include: Researching the application of plasma thermal spraying technology to create protective coatings for structures operating in the space environment; researching the scientific and practical basis to build and perfect national policies and laws related to participating in international treaties on outer space.

Some other outstanding application tasks include: Building a monitoring system for urban planning and management using LOTUSat-1 satellite data; integrating sensor technology, AI, remote sensing and climate-hydrological models in monitoring and early warning of flash floods; monitoring and warning of risks of coastal changes in the Mekong Delta using remote sensing data and satellite altimetry.

In addition, the program also prioritizes research serving resource management and sustainable development such as: Application of geospatial technology and AI in monitoring landscape and water quality of large hydropower reservoirs in the Northern region; development of AI and remote sensing systems to forecast changes in ecosystems in the North Central region; application of machine learning models to monitor biomass and forecast carbon storage capacity of the Northeast Vietnam forest ecosystem.

Some tasks aimed at enhancing the capacity of managing biological and environmental resources have also been implemented, such as building an information system to monitor forest land use; a system to support monitoring and conservation of biodiversity in the South Central region using drones and satellite images; building a system to forecast small pelagic fishing grounds in the Southeast sea based on remote sensing technology and AI to support sustainable seafood exploitation.

The approval of the above tasks contributes to promoting research capacity, mastering space technology and expanding practical applications, serving socio-economic development, ensuring security and safety of resources and the environment in the context of increasingly complex climate change./.
