The remains of 12 Vietnamese martyrs who died in Laos were brought back to be buried at the National Martyrs' Cemetery on Route 9.

(PLVN) - On May 22, at the National Martyrs' Cemetery on Road 9, Quang Tri province solemnly held a memorial service and burial ceremony for 12 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Savannakhet province (Laos), gathered during the 2024-2025 dry season.

With the tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source", in recent times, relevant levels, sectors and units of Vietnam - Laos in general, Quang Tri - Savannakhet province in particular, together with the people, have actively cooperated and supported each other in searching for and collecting martyrs' remains.

Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong and leaders of Quang Tri and Savannakhet provinces attended the memorial service and burial of martyrs' remains.

In Quang Tri, the Martyr Remains Collection Team 584 of the Provincial Military Command has not been afraid of difficulties, going to many rural areas in the province and neighboring Laos to search, collect and bring Vietnamese martyrs back to their homeland. With a high sense of responsibility and determination, the team has worked hard throughout many days and nights to search, and has so far collected 12 martyrs' remains.

At the solemn funeral ceremony at the National Martyrs' Cemetery on Road 9, on behalf of the leaders of Quang Tri province, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 515 expressed his infinite gratitude to the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for the happiness of the people, and for the noble international mission.

In the emotional atmosphere of welcoming 12 martyrs back to their homeland, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien expressed his gratitude for the good feelings and meaningful support of the Party Committee, government and people of Savannakhet province. At the same time, he acknowledged and highly appreciated the spirit of dedication, regardless of difficulties and hardships of the officers and soldiers of the Martyr Remains Collection Team 584.

Quang Tri provincial leaders affirmed that the martyrs’ sacrifices will forever be an immortal symbol of patriotism, a source of pride for the Party, State and People. At the same time, they expressed deep gratitude to Savannakhet province (Laos) for accompanying and assisting Quang Tri in the search and recovery of remains.

In the solemn and sacred atmosphere at the National Martyrs' Cemetery of Road 9, delegates along with a large number of cadres, soldiers and local people offered incense and flowers, expressing their deep gratitude to the martyrs.
