Vietnam Futsal Team finalizes list for 2026 Asian Futsal Championship, Ho Van Y absent

The Vietnam Futsal Team has a strong squad preparing to participate in the 2026 Asian Futsal qualifiers, but goalkeeper Ho Van Y is absent due to injury.

On August 15, head coach Diego Giustozzi officially announced the list of 20 players called up to the Vietnam futsal team to prepare for the 2026 Asian Futsal Qualifiers. This time, the team's force brings together many experienced faces mixed with promising young talents, promising to create strong competitiveness.

Among the 20 players called up, there are two players who are participating for the first time at the national team level: goalkeeper Chau Thach Khanh Cuong (Thai Son Nam TP.HCM) and Nguyen Quoc Giau (Tre TP.HCM). The main players are still veterans with many years of experience such as goalkeeper Pham Van Tu, Fixo Pham Duc Hoa, Nguyen Manh Dung, Ala Chau Doan Phat, Tu Minh Quang, Pivo Nguyen Minh Tri and Nguyen Thinh Phat.

Notably, Nguyen Thinh Phat was the top scorer of the 2025 HDBank National Futsal Championship, while Chau Doan Phat won the title of Best Player of the Tournament. Goalkeeper Pham Van Tu was honored as the best goalkeeper in both the 2025 HDBank National Futsal Championship and the 2025 HDBank National Futsal Cup.

Besides, many young faces continue to be trusted, including Fixo Tran Quang Nguyen, Ala Trinh Cong Dai, Vu Ngoc Anh and Pivo Nguyen Da Hai - the best player of the 2025 HDBank National Cup futsal tournament.

The most regrettable absence is Ho Van Y. The veteran goalkeeper of Vietnam futsal is recovering from recent anterior cruciate ligament surgery and is expected to need at least 6 months to be able to practice again.

According to the plan, the Vietnamese futsal team will gather from August 18 at the District 8 Futsal Stadium (HCMC) before going to Kuwait for training from September 9 to September 14, including two friendly matches with the Kuwait futsal team on September 11 and September 13. After the training trip, coach Giustozzi and his team will move to China to enter the 2026 Asian Futsal Qualifiers.

The 2026 AFC Futsal Championship Qualifiers will feature 31 teams, divided into eight groups, including seven groups of four teams and one group of three teams. The teams will compete in a round-robin format at the venue of the host country. The eight group winners and seven best runners-up will qualify for the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship Finals in Indonesia in January 2026. As hosts, Indonesia will be given a direct entry into the finals.

According to the draw results, the Vietnamese futsal team is in Group E with Lebanon, China and Hong Kong (China). The team will meet Hong Kong (China) on September 20, China on September 22 and Lebanon on September 24.
