Located in a small alley in Hoang Liet ward ( Hanoi ), the leather workshop of about 100 square meters is the workplace of dozens of disabled and disadvantaged people in society.
Towards the 80th anniversary of National Day September 2, the workshop launched the collection "Vietnam, Oh" (part of the project "I'm Good") with products that stand out with bright red colors, printed with yellow stars, evoking images. national flag
"I am good" is a handmade leather production project of the Leather Hospital, founded by Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc. After meeting with the Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities, he realized that this group still faced many difficulties in employment, low income and unstable jobs. From there, he decided to open vocational training courses to help them develop skills and improve their self-reliance.
“The ‘I am good’ project not only brings high-quality products and accessories, but also a place to express the patriotism of the disabled and disadvantaged. Regardless of physical or mental disabilities, the flame of patriotism in each person always burns brightly. This is the value we want to convey through each product,” Mr. Phuc shared.
Deployed since April 2025, "I am good" in collaboration with 4 branches of the Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities has attracted more than 60 members to participate in production. "Initially, many people only expected to receive a salary of 2-3 million VND/month, but after a while, their income far exceeded their expectations. Some people who do well can even earn 400,000 - 500,000 VND/day," said Mr. Phuc.
In a bustling working atmosphere, the workers are busy making each key chain, handbag, phone case… bearing the image of the national flag. Every cut and stitch is carefully done. Even though their hands are not healthy, they still put all their heart into creating the product, conveying national pride.
This job not only brings income and support, but also helps them become more confident, promote creativity and affirm their self-worth.
All products are made from 100% genuine cowhide, crafted by disabled, disadvantaged and autistic members under the guidance of the technical team at the Leather Hospital.
From their disabled hands, they create items bearing the image of the sacred national flag.
According to research, products and accessories such as bags, glasses cases, and phone cases cost 200,000 - 500,000 VND; hair clips, brooches, and key chains cost 60,000 - 100,000 VND.
Through this project, Mr. Phuc hopes that disadvantaged people will be given more opportunities to confidently express their value in society.
