Professor Nguyen Tien Thao, Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), said that in 2025, 16 universities made errors in technical operations, entering scores, determining floor scores, and determining combinations, affecting nearly 1,000 candidates for university admission in 2025.

However, up to this point, all candidates have confirmed their admission to their chosen school or their next choice if they are admitted. “However, this also affects other schools and the number of candidates who have problems,” said Mr. Thao.

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that, in essence, it was not due to the automatic software, but due to the operations of some schools that caused the admission process to be delayed and had to be changed to manual correction. However, Mr. Son also affirmed that this did not affect the passing or failing results of candidates.

The Minister of Education and Training said that this year, there is a good thing that the entrance score for the education sector is very high, showing the ability to attract the attention of society.

“That is very good news for the entire education and training sector, showing a growing development trend, vitality and strength for our sector,” said Mr. Son.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, the number of candidates admitted to university in the first round of 2025 on the system is 773,167 (an increase of 95,181 compared to 2024) out of a total of 849,544 registered candidates.

However, as of September 2, the number of candidates confirmed for the first round of admission was 625,477, a sharp increase compared to last year. However, there were still 147,690 candidates who passed the entrance exam but did not enroll, accounting for 19.1%.

In 2025, there will be 17 admission methods; there will be no more early admission; the number of admission methods, registration wishes and the number of admitted candidates will all increase.

"We also found that there is a percentage of candidates who register for an unspecified wish and register for many wishes," said Professor Nguyen Tien Thao.

The number of training institutions recruiting less than 30% of their target is only 6.5% (in 2024 it will be 16.4%).

Professor Thao said that in 2025, 17 admission methods are still a large number and this also needs to be considered. Of which, the rate of using the transcript review method is 42.4%; the number of students using high school graduation exam scores accounts for 39.1%; the rest are other methods, accounting for 18.5%.

"It's time we look back and see whether we should continue to consider high school transcripts for admission in the future or not?", Professor Thao said.

Another problem, according to Mr. Thao, is that among the 849,544 candidates registered, there are a total of 7.6 million admission wishes, which is extremely large. “Information technology can still handle it, but the problem is that we will cause waste if candidates register too many unspecified wishes,” Mr. Thao said.

Mr. Thao also said that the bright spot this year is that pedagogical majors and key technical majors and strategic technology strongly attract excellent candidates, especially from top universities.

“While the average benchmark score in 2025 is about 3 points lower than in 2024, the benchmark scores of majors and schools are strongly differentiated. The encouraging sign is that the enrollment results of pedagogical majors and STEM majors have improved significantly. Notably, in the 74 majors with benchmark scores based on high school graduation exam scores from 28/30 or higher, there are 50 pedagogical majors and 17 key technical majors, strategic technology (computer science , artificial intelligence, semiconductor microchips, control and automation...)”, Mr. Thao informed.
