22 PhDs recruited, 21 graduated from abroad
Ho Chi Minh City National University has just announced the results of the Program to attract outstanding young scientists and leading scientists to work.
In the first batch of 2025, this university received 51 applications from PhDs, of which 44 were valid. Through the selection and interview process, 22 PhDs were officially admitted.
Of these, 21 PhDs graduated from universities abroad and returned to Vietnam to teach at member schools under Ho Chi Minh City National University, including 11 PhDs from the University of Technology, 7 PhDs from the University of Natural Sciences, 3 PhDs from the University of Economics and Law, and 1 PhD from the University of Health Sciences.
According to the VNU350 program of Ho Chi Minh City National University, in the first two years, young scientists will be granted 1 type C scientific research topic (budget of 200 million VND); in the third year, they will be granted 1 type B topic (maximum budget of 1 billion VND); in the fourth year, they will be supported to invest in laboratories for scientific research (maximum budget of 10 billion VND); in the fifth year, they will be supported and guided in procedures and processes for considering and recognizing them as meeting the standards for the title of associate professor at the State level.

For leading scientists, in the first 2 years, they are granted a type B scientific research project (maximum budget of 1 billion VND); in the following years, they are supported to invest in laboratories for scientific research (maximum budget of 30 billion VND); they are supported to establish strong research groups and register to preside over projects at all levels. In addition to the above benefits, they receive salaries and bonuses according to regulations.

Among the 21 PhDs returning from abroad, many graduated from prestigious universities around the world such as National University of Singapore (Singapore), Seoul National University and Yonsei University (Korea), University of Texas at Austin (USA), RWTH Aachen University (Germany), Sorbonne Paris Nord University (France), Keio University (Japan)...
There are 6 people who graduated from universities in the world's top 100, some of whom have PhDs and have published dozens of scientific articles in prestigious international journals. In particular, one person published up to 72 articles.
Dr. Truong Vinh Lan graduated from the National University of Singapore, which is ranked 8th in the world according to the QS World University Ranking 2025. Mr. Lan has 28 scientific articles published in international journals. He teaches at the Polytechnic University.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Truc Ly graduated from Seoul National University, Korea, ranked 31st in the world. Ms. Truc Ly has 13 articles published in international journals, teaching at the University of Health Sciences.
In addition, 4 PhDs graduated from universities in the world's top 100 (according to the QS 2025 rankings) have also returned to Vietnam: Dr. Vo Dat Nguyen, graduated from Yonsei University (Korea, ranked 56), with 24 international articles, about teaching at the University of Science; Dr. Nguyen Dinh Thi, graduated from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (Germany, ranked 59), with 10 articles, about the University of Natural Sciences; Dr. Truong Trung Kien, graduated from the University of Texas at Austin (USA, ranked 66), with 36 articles, about the University of Natural Sciences; Dr. Nguyen Thi Quynh Chi, graduated from the University of Western Australia (Australia, ranked 77), with 28 articles, about the University of Economics and Law.
In addition, many PhDs have published dozens of international articles such as Dr. Ho Hoang Phuoc, graduated from RWTH Aachen University (Germany) and University of Bologna (Italy), with 72 international articles about the Polytechnic University; Dr. Mai Thanh Tam, graduated from Kyoto Institute of Technology (Japan), with 37 articles about the University of Natural Sciences; Dr. Vo Truong Giang, graduated from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, with 29 articles about the Polytechnic University.
