"I wonder if you will have the chance to hear me sing again?" - the words shared by an old woman at the Center for Nurturing and Treating Meritorious People No. 2 in Hanoi made singer Tuynh Nhat Minh choke up, becoming the motivation for him to continue on his journey of charity and filial piety, considering it the guiding principle for his life.

Since he was a student (2000s), he has nurtured his dream and participated in singing in many charity programs.

Singing for charity to find joy every day

"When I started singing for charity, I realized that I was luckier than many people. And I realized a very simple thing: Every morning when I wake up, I feel that I am still alive and breathing, that is already a happiness. So I have to love this life more, be grateful and sing to repay life" - the male singer from Thai Binh expressed.

Over the past 25 years, on the stages of many Buddhist events, pagodas and charity programs at prisons, centers for the disabled, the elderly or hospitals in Hanoi and many neighboring provinces, Mr. Tuynh Nhat Minh has sought out, participated and given messages of love, songs that inspire motivation and faith to help many people overcome difficulties, live a good life and rise up in life.

When asked about the memorable memories of his volunteer journey, he said he always remembered a single image when he sang for the elderly at the Center for Nursing and Treatment of Meritorious People No. 2 in Hanoi on the occasion of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day, July 27, 2022.

"When singing the song "My Mother", I went closer to the audience. When I finished singing the first part of the song, and was in the prelude to the second part, an old lady grabbed my hand, praised me and said: "I wonder if I will live much longer? Will I have the chance to hear you sing again?" At that moment, my tears kept flowing and I couldn't continue singing" - Tuynh Nhat Minh recalled.

That unforgettable emotional moment made him more aware of his volunteer journey, giving him more motivation to use kind songs to help people in every place he goes, every person he meets to ease their worries, find faith and joy every day.

Having sung with Tuynh Nhat Minh in many programs at pagodas and hospitals, Meritorious Artist Hong Lien said: "When singing at charity events, Tuynh Nhat Minh always seems to feel happier, sings and expresses his emotions sincerely, treating everyone as his close acquaintances."

Take care of mother with all happiness

Recently, when I stopped by his house at the foot of the slope of Hoang Hoa Tham Street (Hanoi), he received me for a while and then told me to wait patiently, because it was his daily "happy hour" that he could not miss.

Completely different from the image of a singer with beautiful clothes that I had seen, now before my eyes was a 49-year-old man, in simple clothes, gently and meticulously performing each step of taking care of his old mother - Mrs. Vu Thi Mien: from changing diapers, emptying the potty, changing pillowcases, washing feet, putting on socks, combing hair, wiping face, washing clothes, feeding and giving medicine to his mother, cleaning the house to make it clean and fragrant... He did it with all his happiness, occasionally singing a few cheerful songs.

Mrs. Mien is 89 years old this year, her eyes are blurred, her back is bent, her limbs are trembling, she listens to him like a baby. "Every day when I wake up, my happiness is to still see my mother's dear figure, to still do my duty as a son to take care of her" - he said.

Perhaps that is also the reason why after graduating with a good degree (vocal music department, Hanoi College of Art), the opportunity to work in Ho Chi Minh City beckoned, but when thinking about leaving his mother, he decided to cancel the trip.

"All love must always start from within one's own family first, especially with parents - the living Buddhas and Bodhisattvas living right next to us" - Minh expressed.
