The Coconino County Sheriff's Office in Arizona, which is investigating the case, said that based on GPS data from the rental car, the group of Korean tourists were determined to have lost contact at around 3:30 p.m. (local time) on Interstate 40, while traveling from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas.
However, on March 13, due to a snowstorm, a serious traffic accident occurred on the above highway, killing 2 people and injuring 16 others.
"Twenty-two cars crashed on the highway at the same time the victims lost contact. Therefore, we believe that the missing tourists may have been involved in the accident," a local police officer said. However, no evidence has yet been found to confirm this hypothesis.

The group of tourists were scheduled to return to Korea on March 17. However, they suddenly lost contact, forcing their relatives back home to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to seek help.
“We have provided all relevant information to local authorities and dispatched staff to the area to assist in the rapid search for the missing family,” the Korean Consulate General in Los Angeles said. However, after nearly 10 days, the victims are still considered missing for unknown reasons.
