Five popular at-hometeeth whitening tips include using baking soda, naturally acidic mixtures like lemon or crushed strawberries, teeth whitening strips, and teeth whitening toothpaste.
According to Dr. Christoph Benz, baking soda has a mild whitening effect, but if you overuse it, it can erode your tooth enamel. The biggest concern is that tooth enamel is not something that can regenerate itself.

Meanwhile, sucking on acidic substances like lemon or pureed strawberries, may also make your teeth look a little whiter but will damage them because the acid attacks the enamel.
Sugar cane is also not a good option, because fructose also converts into acid and also attacks tooth enamel.
Whitening strips and similar products that contain hydrogen peroxide do not actually significantly change the color of your teeth as advertised. They are only effective enough when used as a maintenance method in people who have had their teeth professionally whitened at a dental office.
“When it comes to whitening products, you should follow the instructions on the packaging,” says Dirk Kropp, head of the Pro Dente dental initiative in Germany. The low concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the products means there is little risk of direct damage to your teeth, he says.

Hydrogen peroxide is actually what's used when you get your teeth professionally whitened, because dentists can legally use it in high doses, as part of a treatment plan. That's one of the reasons you can't whiten your teeth too often, and the results aren't always as white as you'd like.
It can also be found in a seemingly harmless product that many people choose: whitening toothpaste. Dr. Benz advises you to be careful with this toothpaste when using it long term.
According to Healthline , the main causes of tooth discoloration can be certain foods that stain tooth enamel, plaque buildup on teeth, or enamel being worn away by impact.
To keep your teeth white, the first thing you should do is maintain good oral hygiene to remove plaque. Avoid prolonged exposure to coffee, red wine, soda, and dark berries - don't avoid eating or drinking them, but rinse and brush your teeth after you do.
A healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables is believed to promote overall dental health.
