If 2023 shows the capabilities of AI, 2024 must increase the accuracy of the results generated by AI so that key industries like healthcare and manufacturing can use the technology more comfortably, according to Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger. Whether it’s doctors relying on artificial general intelligence (AGI) for diagnoses, warehouses using AI to check for problems on assembly lines, or autonomous driving, humans need to become more comfortable with the accuracy of technology.

Mr. Gelsinger commented that AI can do some current problems well, but “it has no way” to do many others. For example, how do you prove that a large language model is actually correct? There are many flaws today that need to be overcome.

The best way to improve accuracy is through testing and piloting together to accelerate AI adoption, according to Clara Shih, CEO of Salesforce AI. “AI can adjust to different levels of trust as users feel more confident in the technology in high-risk situations,” Shih said in an interview.

Shih said three phases of AGI will guide its adoption. Phase one is actively using technology to assist in the work. Phase two is consciously monitoring the technology on autopilot to ensure accuracy. The final phase is letting go and trusting the technology to work as you believe it will.

“A three-phase approach, based on human acceptance of the trustworthiness of the technology, will make AGI less scary than some have speculated,” Open AI CEO Sam Altman shared in a Bloomberg discussion.

He expressed that AI is a tool that can do more than he expected and believes that it will get better, but it will not replace jobs. He called it an “incredible work tool” that magnifies the work that humans are doing, helps them do it better and takes over some of the work.

Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman said the past year has been “a year of discovery .” The financial industry, including Nasdaq, will use AI to update legacy code, modernize outdated systems, and improve automated workflows to save hours of human labor each day. Over the past year, they have conducted several experiments and are beginning to understand the potential of AI, he said.
