Nvidia just announced FourCastNet 3, an AI model that can predict global climate for 15 days in just 64 seconds. Based on the transformer architecture (similar to ChatGPT), this AI accurately simulates air flow, temperature, rainfall and the possibility of natural disasters.
Nvidia's Mike Pritchard says AI is completely changing the way we create climate forecasts and simulations. Microsoft also developed Aurora, an AI that can accurately predict severe weather events like super typhoon Doksuri.
Aurora even outperformed the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) in 92% of its 10-day global forecasts, setting a new benchmark for speed and accuracy. Startup Aardvark Weather uses AI to process raw data directly, making fast forecasts on regular computers, without the need for supercomputers. Many forecasting centers are experimenting with integrating AI, giving developing countries access to advanced meteorological technology.
However, experts warn that AI should support, not completely replace, traditional physical models in weather forecasting. Dear readers, please watch more videos : AI Trash Cleaning | Hanoi 18:00
