Laporte is currently under contract with Al Nassr until 2026. |
FIFA confirmed to Marca that the Transfer Management System (TMS) was closed when Al Nassr submitted the paperwork relating to the transfer of Aymeric Laporte, and the body is now investigating the cause of the delay.
In a complicated deal that dragged on until the final minutes of the summer transfer window, Al Nassr failed to submit the paperwork in time, and with the TMS system closed, there was no way for Athletic Bilbao to register the player.
In the final minutes of the 2025 summer transfer window, Bilbao made every effort to resolve the situation, but Laporte's case was similar to that of David De Gea in 2015, when he could not move from Manchester United to Real Madrid due to a paperwork error.
Due to not receiving the documents from Al Nassr, FIFA did not recognize this deal, leading to the contract between Laporte and Athletic Bilbao not being confirmed. FIFA then also focused on investigating the reason why Al Nassr did not send the documents on time, but was unsuccessful.
Previously, Athletic Bilbao reached an agreement with Laporte on a three-year contract, after Al Nassr agreed to terminate the player's contract early. With no ability to register to play for Athletic Bilbao, Laporte was forced to return to Al Nassr.
