“Yesterday when I scored, I heard that my mother cried. It was a very emotional moment when I did something that made my family proud. My mother also told me a lot of things. Thank you, Mom, for always accompanying me,” Ngoc My shared before the U23 Vietnam training session on the afternoon of September 4.

The match at Viet Tri Stadium on the evening of September 3rd had a special meaning for the player born in 2003. Not only was coach Kim Sang-sik trusted to give her a starting position, Ngoc My also scored in her first time wearing the U23 Vietnam jersey in an official tournament.

The goal became even more memorable when it was scored on the familiar grass of Viet Tri Stadium, where he played for Phu Tho before joining Thanh Hoa. His mother could not hide her emotion when she saw her son's goal. The remaining goal that sealed the 2-0 score for U23 Vietnam belonged to Le Viktor.

Talking about her own goal, Ngoc My shared: “That was the first match I played and also the first goal, I felt very happy. I am more confident because I have played in Phu Tho before, so the feeling on the field is also easier.”

Despite his perfect debut, the young striker modestly admitted that he still has a lot of room for improvement. “I need to improve a lot of things, from touching the ball, moving, coordinating to finishing. The connection within the team also needs time because we have only been together for a few days. But I believe the more we play, the more united the team will be,” he added.

Ngoc My did not hide her determination ahead of the remaining two matches in Group C. U23 Vietnam will face U23 Singapore (September 6) and U23 Yemen (September 9) to compete for the only ticket to the final round. "In the next matches, the whole team will try their best, considering each match as the final," the striker affirmed.

The opening victory over U23 Bangladesh helped U23 Vietnam temporarily lead Group C. With confidence after the opening match and the eager spirit of young faces like Ngoc My, fans expect coach Kim Sang-sik and his team to continue their winning streak to win a place in the final round of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.
