Responding to the Financial Times on November 5, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang issued a stern warning about America's leading position in the AI race, asserting that China will eventually be the winner.
“China will win the AI race,” Huang said on the sidelines of the Future of AI Summit.
The remarks come just a month after Nvidia's CEO said China is about to catch up with the United States in terms of economic and geopolitical influence.
“China is just nanoseconds away from the United States. So we have to compete,” Mr. Huang said at the time, speaking on the BG2 podcast hosted by tech investors Brad Gerstner and Bill Gurley.
The US should allow the technology industry to compete globally, including in China, to “spread technology around the world ,” Mr. Huang said.
Nvidia's founder argues that allowing companies like Nvidia to sell products into China would serve America's interests as a way to spread technology and expand geopolitical influence.
“We are facing a formidable competitor that is innovative, hungry, agile and unconstrained,” Mr Huang said, referring to the origins of Chinese engineers and the controversial 996 work culture.
After talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, US President Donald Trump said he would allow the country to work with Nvidia, but not on the most advanced chips.
