Carlos Alcaraz won the Roland Garros 2025 Tennis Championship after a dramatic final match in the early morning of June 9. Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(2) after 5 hours and 30 minutes of play, winning the Roland Garros 2025 Championship and setting a record for the longest final match in the history of the tournament.

The match ended in a super tie-break in the fifth set – the first time it was used at Roland Garros. Alcaraz won the first seven points and ended the match with a winner down the line, asserting his mettle at the decisive moment.
Sinner came close to winning his first Grand Slam title when he led 2-1 and had three match points in the fourth set. However, he missed the opportunity and Alcaraz fought back strongly. The Spaniard won the last two sets in a row, both in tie-breaks, extending his unbeaten record in all five Grand Slam finals he has played.
The Spaniard’s fifth Grand Slam title is also an interesting statistic. At 22 years, 1 month and 3 days, Alcaraz won his fifth Grand Slam – the same age as Rafa Nadal when he achieved the same feat.
“I think first of all, I need to realise that I did it,” Alcaraz said. “To be honest, the coincidence of winning the fifth Grand Slam at the same age as Rafa Nadal… I think it was fate. It’s a statistic that I will always remember. Winning the fifth Grand Slam at the same age as Rafa, my idol, my biggest inspiration, is a huge honour. Hopefully this is not the end.”
The win made Alcaraz the third man in the 21st century to successfully defend his Roland Garros title, after Kuerten and Nadal. At 22, he already has five Grand Slam titles and is the third youngest male player in the Open Era to achieve this milestone , after Nadal and Bjorn Borg.
