This match marked Atletico's eighth consecutive home victory against Valladolid. Despite being bottom of the table, Valladolid gave Atletico a tough day.

From the very first minutes, Atletico showed their dominance with relentless attacks. Midfielder Pablo Barrios created the first opportunity with a shot that forced Valladolid goalkeeper Andre Ferreira to make an excellent save.

A surprise occurred a few minutes later when Valladolid were awarded a penalty after defender Clement Lenglet handled the ball in the penalty area. Mamadou Sylla didn't miss, deceiving Jan Oblak to open the scoring for Valladolid.

But just four minutes later, it was Atletico's turn to be awarded a penalty when Javi Sanchez fouled Giuliano Simeone inside the penalty area. Julian Alvarez successfully converted the penalty, equalizing for Atletico.

In the 27th minute, Simeone put Atletico ahead 2-1 with a powerful left-footed shot from inside the penalty area. Atletico quickly turned the game around and took the lead against Valladolid before the first half ended.

In the second half, the visiting team showed they wouldn't give up easily. Sanchez redeemed himself with a perfectly placed free kick; the ball deflected off a player's leg and into the net, bringing the game back to a tie.

Once again, Atletico were awarded a penalty when Henrique fouled Marcos Llorente inside the penalty area. Alvarez stepped up to take the penalty and scored the second goal of the match in the 71st minute.

Atletico had two more goals against Valladolid before the match ended. However, only Alexander Sorloth's shot in the 79th minute was allowed as a goal, while Thomas Lemar's goal was disallowed by the referee.

This 4-2 victory helps Atletico close the gap with Barcelona and Real Madrid (to 7 and 3 points respectively) in the race for the La Liga title this season.

The camera angle shows Julian Alvarez touching the ball with both feet. In the early hours of March 13th, Julian Alvarez was confirmed to have touched the ball twice when taking the second penalty kick against Real Madrid.
