Together with the delegation of the Provincial Federation of Labor, we visited the family of Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hau, a member of the Trade Union of Son La Printing Joint Stock Company in a small alley on Nguyen Du Street, Group 12, To Hieu Ward, who has just received support to build a "Trade Union Shelter" house. With Mr. Hau's monthly salary being the main source of income for the family, saving to build a new house is beyond his ability. Understanding his situation, the Provincial Federation of Labor supported 50 million VND, helping him fulfill his dream of a new house, work with peace of mind, and increase his income.
Taking us to visit the spacious house, Mr. Hau shared: On the day of handing over the house "Union Shelter", relatives, friends, and colleagues came to congratulate. I was very touched, thanking the union organization for its concern.
Comrade Thai Thi Mai, Chairwoman of the Provincial Federation of Labor, Chairwoman of the Management Board of the Fund to support union members and workers of Son La Trade Union, informed: Every year, the Fund Management Board directs members to survey and grasp the situation and needs for housing, life, employment, and income of union members and workers. On that basis, select and propose subjects with difficult circumstances, damaged housing due to natural disasters, fires, and the need to build new or repair houses. Guide union members and workers to prepare documents to request support for building new or repairing "Union Shelters"; organize appraisals, meetings, coordinate inspections, supervision, urging and guiding implementation; at the same time, accept and settle support payments to ensure strictness, transparency, and compliance with regulations.
Since the beginning of the year, through the Support Fund, the Provincial Federation of Labor has supported 39 “Union Shelters” for union members with housing difficulties. Of these, 33 houses were newly built, 6 houses were repaired (costing 50 million VND/new house and 30 million VND/repaired house), total cost of more than 1.8 billion VND.
The newly built and repaired houses not only show solidarity with union members' families in difficult circumstances but also affirm the role and position of the trade union organization with the function of caring for and protecting the rights of workers.
Currently, the housing needs of union members and workers in difficult circumstances in the province are still high, while the support funds of the trade union organization are limited. Trade unions at all levels continue to diversify forms of propaganda and mobilization to improve the effectiveness of management and use of the support fund for union members and workers of Son La Trade Union, so that more "Union Shelters" can be repaired and newly built for union members and workers.
