Amorim abolished the 4-hour gathering rule before Ten Hag's match. |
Under Erik ten Hag, United players were required to arrive at Old Trafford four hours before kick-off. They drove to the stadium in their own cars, had a light meal in the VIP area that Ten Hag had converted into a common room, and then prepared for the match. This rule caused a lot of controversy, as many players felt that waiting too long at the stadium made them lose their enthusiasm before the match.
Amorim decided to scrap the rule. Instead, the squad would gather at Carrington, eat and prepare together in the familiar atmosphere of the training ground. They would then travel by bus to Old Trafford, arriving at 2.45pm (UK time), just over an hour before kick-off against Arsenal.
Explaining the change, Amorim stressed: "Old Trafford must be the centre of the game, but we cannot sit there for four hours. It is better for the whole team to prepare at Carrington, then when they arrive at the stadium they will immediately feel the passionate atmosphere from the fans. That way, the connection with the audience will be stronger and more natural."
He also confirmed that this change will not affect the fan experience: "Fans will still be able to meet the players and sign autographs as before. But for us, the preparation will be more streamlined, there will be less waiting time and most importantly, the excitement right before the ball rolls will be maintained."
With his bold decision, Amorim showed that he is not afraid to erase old rules to build his own style, aiming to help MU take the field with the best spirit right from the opening match of the Premier League.
