The national aviation authority said the Beechcraft C90 operated by Redbird Airways Pvt. Ltd. lost control just minutes after takeoff from Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand state, last Monday.

The plane was transporting a severely burned patient to New Delhi for specialized treatment. On board were the patient, a doctor, a medical staff member, two of the patient's relatives, the pilot, and the co-pilot.

Local officials at the scene said: "All seven people on board the air ambulance have died and their bodies have been taken for autopsy."

Authorities suspect the plane experienced severe turbulence due to bad weather, leading to a loss of control. The General Department of Civil Aviation stated that a team from the Air Accident Investigation Bureau has been dispatched to the scene to determine the cause.

Local media quoted witnesses as saying they heard a loud explosion before seeing smoke rising from the forested area, prompting authorities to quickly deploy rescue efforts.

In India, air ambulances are commonly used to transport critically ill patients from smaller cities to larger medical centers.

The incident further raises concerns about aviation safety in bad weather conditions, especially in areas with challenging terrain. The accident occurred just weeks after a private plane carrying a senior state official crashed in western India, killing five people.
