$3,500 is the price consumers will have to pay to own the Vision Pro. That's not a small amount of money, so the American company seems to want to bring its mixed reality to more people with a more accessible model.
This information comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in a new report, where he says that Apple's plan is to launch a more affordable Vision headset than the Vision Pro. This new product could be called the Vision or Vision One. The price cut makes it a mass-market product, and it could be announced in 2025.
To get the price down, Apple will have to cut manufacturing costs. To do so, users will have to use a lower-resolution screen, a less powerful processor, reduce the number of cameras, or require AirPods if they want to enjoy spatial audio.
However, there are features that Apple seems unwilling to give up, particularly its EyeSight technology and hand tracking system, which are essential for navigation with Vision OS. Mark Gurman points out that Apple also considered not revealing the retail price of the Vision Pro at the time of its introduction because they were concerned that $3,500 might create a negative impression of the new product.
However, Apple wants to reveal the price of Vision Pro at launch and give the market about 9 months to forget the negative comments about this information, so that people will not be surprised once the product is launched on the market.
It’s still unclear how much the cheaper Vision Pro version will cost, and whether it will actually be priced for the average consumer. It’s also too early to confirm the existence of this product, let alone its price.
