Just a few weeks after the iPhone Air officially hit the shelves, Huawei suddenly launched the Mate 70 Air, marking the next step in its strategy to expand its thin and light product line. According to information from the Chinese telecommunications terminal product library, this model appeared on October 21 and is expected to be officially announced next November.
The Huawei Mate 70 Air comes in three color options: Black Gold, Feather White, and Brocade Silver, and runs HarmonyOS 5.0. It has a 6.9-inch screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels, supports NFC, and has a design similar to the Mate 70 series with a signature star-shaped camera module. The slightly curved frame, glass back, and micro-arc transition make the device thinner, lighter, and more comfortable to hold.
Leaked sources say the Mate 70 Air could launch alongside the Mate 80 series at the November event. Many people predict that this could be Huawei's first phone model to support eSIM, but this detail has not been confirmed yet. The expected starting price is around 5,999 yuan (equivalent to more than 22 million VND).
The launch of the Mate 70 Air is a strategic move as Huawei faces sales pressure. According to IDC data, in the third quarter of 2025, Huawei ranked third in the Chinese market with a 15.2% market share, down from 18.1% in the previous quarter. Vivo currently leads with 17.3%, while Apple holds second place with 15.8%.
One of the reasons for Huawei's decline is the poor sales of the Pura 80 series, launched in June 2025. Despite heavy discounts during promotions, the total number of devices sold domestically only reached about 1.67 million units, much lower than the nearly 4 million units of the previous generation.
The Mate 70 Air is expected to help Huawei regain growth momentum before the Mate 80 series, which integrates the latest Kirin 9030 chip, is officially launched in November. The technology world is waiting to see how Huawei can create a new breakthrough in performance and price in the increasingly fierce competition with other domestic brands in China.
