Young talent Max Dowman, 15 years old, officially joined the Arsenal squad in La Manga, Spain for pre-season training, preparing for the upcoming Asian tour.
The Gunners landed in La Manga on Thursday and will train there for five days. They will then fly to Singapore on July 19 for friendlies against AC Milan and Newcastle, before continuing their journey to Hong Kong to face rivals Tottenham in the North London derby.
Notably, Arsenal brought with them a first-team squad with high-profile newcomers such as Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi. But the name that surprised many people the most was midfielder Max Dowman, who is considered one of the most precious gems of the Arsenal academy.
Dowman had an impressive season at youth level, scoring 19 goals and providing five assists in 23 games in all competitions. In the last seven games of the season for the U18s, Dowman scored 14 goals and provided three assists, an impressive return for a teenager.
Not only has Dowman impressed at club level, he is also a member of the England U17 squad for this summer's European Championship. Coach Mikel Arteta expressed his hopes for the youngster back in May: "I think Max Dowman will probably be involved in pre-season," Arteta said. "He's had a very busy summer with tournaments, and of course he needs some time off. But we'll also pick a few more names from the academy to add to the first team and hopefully there will be another great surprise."
With Dowman's presence, Arsenal fans have reason to expect a new generation of talent that is gradually being given opportunities by Arteta, in the context of the team aiming to conquer major titles next season.
