In the first quarter, Vietnam's pangasius exports to ASEAN reached US$44 million, a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2025. After falling to a low of US$9 million in February – reflecting a sluggish order cycle after the festive season – exports recovered strongly, reaching US$18 million in March, the highest level in the quarter.
This development shows that the demand for pangasius imports in ASEAN remains stable cyclically, despite short-term fluctuations. According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Processing and Export, there is still considerable growth potential for pangasius in ASEAN, China, the Middle East, the EU, and some emerging markets.
Pangasius fish prices remain stable.
The price of raw pangasius in the Mekong Delta provinces and cities has remained stable at a high level for a long time. In recent days, the purchase price of raw pangasius has been between 32,000 and 34,000 VND/kg. At this price, farmers can achieve a profit of 5,000 to 8,000 VND/kg.
Pangasius fish prices have remained stable at high levels recently due to scarce supply and strong market demand. However, the increase in the price of adult pangasius has also driven up the price of fingerlings, at times reaching 70,000 - 100,000 VND/kg.
Many fish ponds in key farming areas are being left empty due to farmers' concerns about rising investment costs, especially the price of fingerlings and aquatic feed.
Dong Thap province has over 2,600 hectares dedicated to pangasius farming. The locality is strengthening quality management, focusing on inputs and outputs, while also supporting consumption connections and enhancing the competitiveness of this advantageous product.
