Asian Cup 2027: Vietnam team starts training in Malaysia

On the afternoon of June 6, the Vietnamese team had its first training session at the Sime Darby Training Center, Selangor state, Malaysia, for 2 hours.

During this training session, the team will complete tactical and physical preparations for the match against the home team in the second match of Group F of the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup at Bukit Jalil Stadium on June 10.

Sharing with VNA reporters in Kuala Lumpur, player Nguyen Hai Long expressed the excitement and positive mentality of the whole team before the match, and affirmed the determination and efforts of each player to contribute to the overall playing style of the whole team.

Despite playing away, Nguyen Hai Long expects the Vietnamese team to win all 3 points against the Malaysian team, continuing the streak of previous matches.

Assessing the balance of power when the Malaysian team has a strong lineup with imported players, player Hai Long said that currently the whole team has determined that the upcoming match is the key match of the group, focusing on strength and trying their best with an excited and enthusiastic mentality.

According to the plan, the team will have 3 days of training on away ground for the match at Bukit Jalil Stadium, including a 15-minute familiarization match on June 9.

Before that, welcoming the team at Kuala Lumpur International Airport were about 100 Vietnamese fans, who are active members of the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association, carrying national flags, fresh flowers and banners with wishes for victory, who were present very early at the airport to congratulate the team.

The concern of overseas Vietnamese encouraged the players from the very first minutes of setting foot in the foreign land, adding great motivation to Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team.

In the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, taking place from March 25, 2025 to March 31, 2026, Vietnam is in Group F with Malaysia, Nepal and Laos.

In this group, Malaysia is considered the most formidable opponent of the Vietnamese team when it naturalized 7 quality players after the failure at the 2024 Asean Cup.

According to the tournament format, 24 teams are divided into 6 groups of 4 teams each to play a round-robin home and away. Only the group winners will qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup finals in Saudi Arabia./.
