Bac Lieu economic growth 6.32% in 9 months of 2024

In the first 9 months of 2024, Bac Lieu province's economic growth rate in the third quarter increased by 6.96%; In the first 9 months of 2024, the province's economic growth rate increased by 6.32% over the same period, ranking 8th out of 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region.

Agricultural, forestry, salt and fishery production continued to develop, contributing to the province's growth; harvested output increased over the same period. Total aquaculture and exploitation output in the third quarter reached 154,108 tons, accumulated in 9 months 367,187, reaching 66.34% of the plan , up 9.05%; rice output 998,512 tons, reaching 86.83% of the plan, up 6.49%; livestock development was stable; harvested salt output was 76,438 tons, reaching 254.67% of the plan, up 153.81% over the same period. Tasks to prepare for the organization of the Vietnam - Bac Lieu Salt Festival were actively implemented.

Industrial production growth was not as expected. The industrial production growth index in the third quarter increased by 6.62%; 9 months increased by 4.3% over the same period. Total retail sales of goods and service revenue in the third quarter reached 19,437 billion VND, accumulated in 9 months was 58,937 billion VND, reaching 68.69% of the plan, up 5.4% over the same period. Export turnover was estimated at 745.46 million USD, reaching 64.35% of the plan, up 9.13% over the same period (mainly focusing on frozen shrimp exports).

Regarding investment attraction, business development, cooperatives have always been interested in maintaining the operation of the business coffee model; in addition, the province has established many working groups to accompany businesses to remove difficulties and obstacles, effectively implement support policies, promote production and business, and invest in local development. In the first 9 months, 17 investors were interested in approaching and surveying 16 investment projects in the area, looking for investment opportunities in the province; newly granted Investment Registration Certificates for 2 projects and adjusted Investment Registration Certificates for 22 projects; revoked 1 project. In the third quarter, 107 enterprises were newly registered; in the first 9 months, there were 276 newly registered enterprises, reaching 61.9% of the plan, equivalent to the same period. 16 new cooperatives were established, reaching 80% of the plan, down 33.3% over the same period.

Mr. Pham Van Thieu, Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee, spoke at the press conference on the afternoon of October 8.

Budget collection work has been vigorously implemented. Total state budget revenue (domestic revenue) in the third quarter reached VND 857.43 billion; accumulated in 9 months was VND 3,284 billion, reaching 83.97% of the estimate, up 6.9% over the same period. Total local budget expenditure in the third quarter was VND 2,209 billion, accumulated in 9 months was VND 5,716.116 billion, reaching 66.03% of the estimate, up 13.66% over the same period. Regarding credit: By the end of September 2024, mobilized capital reached VND 31,670 billion, up 7.9% over the same period; total outstanding loans are estimated at VND 44,000 billion, up 9.24% over the same period; bad debt ratio accounts for 2.18% of total outstanding loans.

However, in the first 9 months of 2024, the progress of disbursement of public investment capital was still low . The number of enterprises withdrawing from the market was still quite high, and investment attraction was facing many difficulties. Export activities were mainly seafood, while the source of raw shrimp for export processing was sometimes difficult and unsustainable.

To achieve the set development goals, from now until the end of 2024, Bac Lieu has determined that promoting the disbursement of public investment capital is a key political task in 2024. Focus on accelerating project implementation progress, especially key projects, important national projects, expressway projects, regional connectivity projects and national target programs.

Along with that, Bac Lieu province will promptly handle and remove obstacles in investment; resolutely and promptly handle organizations and individuals who violate the provisions of the law and deliberately obstruct, cause difficulties, and slow down the progress of implementation and disbursement of public investment plans.
