News from Hung Vuong Hospital in Gia Lai on July 16th reported that the hospital recently successfully performed surgery on a patient who had had bladder stones for nearly 30 years, with a size exceeding 10 cm.
Previously, a 36-year-old female patient, VTTN, residing in Pleiku Ward, Gia Lai Province, was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of painful urination and passing urinary stones. The patient stated that she had a history of bladder stones since childhood, frequently experiencing difficulty urinating and pain in the lower abdomen, but did not seek proper treatment. When the pain worsened, she finally went to Hung Vuong Gia Lai Hospital for examination.

According to Dr. Hoang Van Cong (Department of General Surgery, Hung Vuong Hospital, Gia Lai), after examination and performing paraclinical tests, doctors discovered a large stone in the patient's bladder that occupied the entire bladder lumen, posing a risk of mucosal damage, infection, and impaired urinary function. Due to the stone's enormous size, it could not be expelled naturally, so the doctors prescribed a cystostomy to remove the stone.
The surgical team successfully removed a kidney stone measuring over 10 cm, bringing relief after years of pain to the patient. Currently, the patient's health is stable, the surgical wound is healing well, and they are eligible for discharge.
Following this surgery, Dr. Hoang Van Cong advises: When experiencing abnormal symptoms such as painful urination, frequent urination, or lower abdominal pain, people should not be complacent but should immediately go to reputable medical facilities for timely examination and treatment.
