International standard medicine present in coastal areas
“ In the first days of working at Vinmec, I received treatment for a special colon cancer patient. She was a young mother, only 34 years old. I still remember clearly her bewildered eyes when she heard that she had cancer ,” Dr. Khoi began the story with unforgettable memories.
That case was like a milestone marking a new journey for the doctor at Vinmec Nha Trang Hospital. After consulting with leading experts in the Vinmec healthcare system, he decided to perform laparoscopic colon resection surgery for the patient.
“ What impressed me most was that the patient's recovery speed was much faster than expected, thanks to the post-operative care and pain relief program according to international standards at Vinmec ,” he shared.

Now, the young mother has completed the treatment regimen and returned to normal life. For Dr. Khoi, that result is not only a joy in the profession, but also a testament to the power of multidisciplinary coordination between surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, nutritionists and rehabilitation specialists.
Another memory that he will always remember is the surgery for a 2-year-old child with congenital megacolon. The surgery was performed in collaboration with Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Anh Vu - a gastrointestinal surgery specialist of the Vinmec system.
“ The moment the baby defecated for the first time in his life, without the need for medication, the whole department was overwhelmed. I have never seen such a simple yet complete joy ,” he said.
According to Dr. Khoi, to achieve these achievements, the ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) model that Vinmec routinely deploys plays a key role. ERAS is a global trend, helping patients recover quickly, reduce complications and shorten hospital stays.
“I am very proud that Vinmec is fully applying this model with the support of a standardized system of equipment, human resources and processes ,” he said.
Vinmec's mark on the journey to improve local healthcare
Graduated with a general practitioner degree and a master's degree in surgery from Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Dr. Khoi soon determined his path to specialize in the field of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery. He studied at leading centers in France and Korea, such as Jean Verdier University Hospital, Avicenne University Hospital (University of Paris XIII) and Ewha University Hospital (Seoul). It was this period of time that shaped his approach to modern medicine, valuing process, precision and multidisciplinary coordination in treatment.
“ I want to bring that spirit of leading medical centers to apply to Vietnamese patients ,” he shared.
Before joining Vinmec, Dr. Khoi had more than 16 years of working experience at the Provincial General Hospital and Khanh Hoa Oncology Hospital, holding the position of Head of the General Surgery Department. His years of working at the provincial level helped him better understand the circumstances and difficulties of local patients.
“ Many patients with digestive cancer are forced to travel to Ho Chi Minh City for treatment, a long, tiring and expensive journey. I always wish that Khanh Hoa had a hospital with synchronous investment so that people could be treated on the spot according to international standards ,” he recalled.
Now, as Head of the Department of Gastroenterology - Hepatobiliary - Urology, Vinmec Nha Trang General Hospital, Dr. Khoi's wish is gradually becoming a reality. Vinmec Nha Trang is equipped with a modern Hybrid operating room system, surgical support robots, and a team of doctors trained in-depth at home and abroad. Thanks to that, local people can access high-quality medical services right where they live, instead of having to travel hundreds of kilometers.

According to the doctor, the comprehensive and systematic investment of the Vinmec system not only helps patients enjoy international standard services but also creates a learning environment that contributes to improving the capacity of local medical staff, thereby narrowing the gap in quality of medical examination and treatment between regions.
“The most valuable thing is that we always have a strong team behind us. Every difficult surgery is consulted with leading experts in the system, ensuring the most accurate and safest treatment decisions for patients,” he said.
From the first complex surgeries to hundreds of patients recovering healthily, the journey of Dr. Truong Dinh Khoi and his colleagues at Vinmec Nha Trang is a testament to Vinmec's relentless efforts in bridging the gap between international standards and local practices, so that patients can be treated, cared for and regain faith in life right in the place where they were born.
