Balotelli has a new destination

Mario Balotelli continues to prepare for a new turning point in his career by joining a third-tier club in Spain.

Balotelli is set to join Murcia.

Balotelli joined Genoa in October 2024, but has only made six appearances and is being released by the club. The Italian striker's representatives have begun negotiations with Real Murcia, who play in Spain's third division.

Murcia president Felipe Moreno and sporting director Asier Goiria met with Balotelli's advisors in Madrid and discussed signing the Italian striker on a free transfer this summer.

Real Murcia have played in La Liga for 18 seasons, most recently in 2007/08. They have also won a record eight second-tier titles. However, financial difficulties have seen them relegated to the fourth tier in 2022.

Murcia play at the 31,000-capacity Estadio Nueva Condomina and are expected to be favourites for promotion next season. They finished second in Group 2 of the Primera Federacion last season, but were beaten in the promotion playoff semi-finals by Gimnastic de Tarragona.

If the negotiations go well, Murcia will become Balotelli's 13th club in his career. However, fans are concerned that this Spanish team is not a long-term destination for Balotelli. He often leaves quickly after only 1 year playing for clubs in Europe.

From 2022 to present, Balotelli has played for 3 clubs including FC Sion, Adana Demirspor and Genoa, but has scored only 13 goals in 40 matches.
