Western villages heavily flooded after floods, traffic cut off, many places lost contact

By dawn on July 23, the rain had stopped and the floodwaters had decreased in height, but dozens of villages in western Nghe An were still submerged in water, many bridges were washed away, roads were cut off, and many villages were unreachable.

At 5 a.m., in the center of Muong Xen commune, the rain had stopped and the flood had decreased in level, but all the houses on both sides of National Highway 7 along the Nam Mo River were still more than half submerged. In some places, the water had basically receded but mud and trash were everywhere. Many households did not have time to move their belongings, leaving their homes to flee the flood during the night; this morning, they gradually returned home, witnessing that their belongings and property were almost all washed away, flooded, and damaged.

In many communes such as My Ly and Nhon Mai, some villages are currently unable to connect to get information. As of 6am this morning, the authorities have not been able to connect to update information in 7 villages along the river in My Ly commune due to deep flooding, many houses were swept away during the night.

In Con Cuong, Chau Khe, and Tuong Duong communes, local officials said that many sections of National Highway 7 and villages were still deeply flooded. People still had to move their belongings to higher ground, and traffic was cut off. In many places, authorities had to use boats to move around.
