Courage before alcohol

These days, the traffic police force in our province is drastically checking and handling drivers on the road who violate alcohol concentration. During rush hour, traffic police and other functional forces set up checkpoints on many routes to check drivers...

The majority of the people agree to support and suggest that it should be done more often with the motto: "no exceptions, no forbidden areas". Because, violating alcohol concentration when driving a vehicle is an act that endangers society, is a direct cause of traffic accidents. Anyone who has lost a loved one because of being a victim of "alcohol", or anyone whose loved one was injured by drunkards who disregard the law, the lives and health of others can understand the pain. Only those who drink beer and alcohol and then drive a vehicle to participate in traffic and cause accidents, bringing grief and sorrow to innocent people. The heartbreaking story that recently happened in Ho Chi Minh City is an example.

At 4:00 p.m. on November 12, 2023, Mr. PC T drove a car while drunk, then collided with two cars, then hit three motorbikes, causing one death and two others to be hospitalized. The police investigation agency determined that Mr. T had consumed alcohol and beer, with a blood alcohol concentration of 188.8 mg/100 ml of blood (exceeding the maximum limit). The police investigation agency of Thu Duc City Police (Ho Chi Minh City) has issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused, and issue an arrest warrant to detain Mr. T. Now, perhaps Mr. T is very remorseful for his actions... but it is too late. Only pity for the families whose loved ones suddenly suffered an accident, how heartbreaking!

Because of the alcohol concentration violations, they permanently lost people or their loved ones had to be hospitalized.... Currently, on the mass media and social networks, we see many heartbreaking stories caused by people violating alcohol concentration while driving. Therefore, the lesson for everyone is to strictly comply with the provisions of the law, if you drink beer or alcohol, do not drive, and if you drive, do not use beer or alcohol.

In Ninh Binh province, the number of people who drink beer and alcohol and then drive vehicles, violating alcohol concentration is very high. According to the provincial traffic police, from December 15, 2022 to September 14, 2023, 249 car drivers; 4,693 motorcyclists and 13 motorcyclists who violated alcohol concentration were checked and handled. In reality, the number of violators may be even higher because the traffic police force does not have enough staff and time to check and monitor alcohol concentration on all routes.

Drinking alcohol and beer has long become a culture for Vietnamese people. Talking about drinking alcohol, there have been sayings such as: "A man without alcohol is like a flag without wind"; or "Alcohol cannot be forced - forced alcohol cannot be refused"... to invite each other to drink. Sometimes, friendliness, enthusiasm, respect, and hospitality are expressed through glasses of alcohol and beer. Without beer and wine, a drinking party can often be calm and can end early. The host feels unhappy and not wholeheartedly devoted to everyone.

It must also be said that in reality, there are people who succeed thanks to good communication over glasses of beer and wine, which are praised by their partners. Many people often say to each other, "If you do business now and don't know how to drink or entertain guests, it's a waste." But there are also people who, just because they drink alcohol, have to receive discipline, even violate the law, go to jail, and regret it for life, like the case of Mr. T mentioned above.

Therefore, everyone needs to have the courage to drink beer and alcohol during a drinking party with sincere invitations from brothers, sisters, friends, colleagues, partners and even people who have just met through alcohol at the party table. It is easy to say, but having the courage to refuse drinking beer and alcohol in reality is not easy at all. The only way is if you cannot refuse, it is best not to drive, take a taxi or call relatives to pick you up and take you home.

Handling alcohol violations has become a "hot" topic in every family, agency, unit and the whole society. Up to now, many cadres, party members and people have learned to be "afraid" because it is easy to be checked for alcohol concentration by traffic police at any time. At parties, many people who used to declare "not drunk, not going home" now know how to say no to beer and alcohol, "because I'm still driving". But the sad thing is that in reality there are still people who "have nothing to lose", still drink and still drive, then dodge, avoid, if they meet traffic police, they run away or accept being fined. The behavior of these people is not only uncultured in terms of traffic culture, but also dangerous to themselves and others....

There is only a little over a month left until the end of 2024 and we are preparing to welcome the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, so everyone has many events related to eating and partying. Agencies, units, businesses... summarize the year. Families, friends, and relatives organize weddings, death anniversaries, build and repair houses, inaugurate houses... Every job requires a festival, a joyful and exciting party. When having a festival or party, most of them have beer, wine...

Just a reminder to everyone to be brave when dealing with alcohol; if you drink alcohol, do not drive, and if you drive, do not drink alcohol. Do not, for a moment of fun, drink alcohol and then drive, or you will suffer unforeseen consequences.
