On April 28, 1975, our forces broke through the enemy's outer defenses, cut off Route 4, and increased the siege on Saigon in all directions; surrounded and prevented the enemy's main divisions from gathering in the inner city outskirts.
In the East, on the morning of April 28, 1975, Regiment 46, Division 325 (Corps 2) led the Division's formation to advance along Route 25, continuously destroying enemy defense clusters in Ben Sang, Phu Hoi, and Long Tan. In the afternoon of the same day, Division 325 took control of Nhon Trach sub-region and defeated enemy counterattacks in this area, creating conditions for Corps artillery to occupy the battlefield and fire at Tan Son Nhat airport.
In the Southeast, the 341st Division, 4th Corps attacked Ho Nai, but was fiercely blocked by the enemy and had to stop to organize a breakthrough. The 7th Division and the 52nd Brigade advanced following the 6th Division's formation, deployed south of Highway 1, preparing to be the Corps' deep penetration force.

In the Northwest, a part of the 316th Division (3rd Corps) attacked and cut Highway 22 from Bau Nau to Tra Vo, set up a post there and surrounded Tra Vo. The 174th Regiment of the 316th Division cut Highway 1 from Phuoc My to Trang Bang, destroyed enemy posts in Trung Hung, Suoi Cao, and Bo Heo; blocked the 25th Division, suppressed enemy artillery positions, and together with the Tay Ninh armed forces surrounded the town, liberating many rural areas.
On the night of April 28, 1975, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the 3rd Corps ordered the 320th Division and the 10th Division to march and occupy the battlefield on time according to the joint plan; at the same time, ordered the 316th Division to surround and then attack and occupy Trang Bang sub-region.
In the West and Southwest, on the afternoon of April 28, 1975, the artillery campaign in Hieu Liem paralyzed Bien Hoa airport. The enemy's 3rd Corps Command had to move to Go Vap.
By the end of the day, the 9th Infantry Division and some technical weapons units had crossed the Vam Co Dong River and were in assembly positions at Bau Cong, My Thanh and Duc Hoa. The 24th and 88th Regiments expanded their positions north of Can Giuoc, preparing to advance south of Saigon.
On the enemy side, faced with our rapid attack, on the afternoon of April 28, 1975, the enemy was forced to evacuate aircraft from Bien Hoa airport to Tan Son Nhat airport. The enemy's 3rd Corps Command had to abandon Bien Hoa and flee to Go Vap.
Meanwhile, in Saigon, Tran Van Huong resigned, handing over the presidency to Duong Van Minh. Duong Van Minh called on the ARVN to continue to "maintain its ranks and positions to complete the new mission of protecting the remaining land".
Less than 10 minutes after Duong Van Minh finished his inaugural speech, our air force's "Determined to Win" squadron, consisting of 5 captured A37s from the enemy, led by Captain Nguyen Thanh Trung, from Thanh Son airport (Phan Rang), accurately dropped bombs on the runway and aircraft parking area of Tan Son Nhat airport, destroying 24 aircraft of various types, killing and injuring more than 100 enemies, damaging and paralyzing the command and control system at the airport.
The daring and unexpected air raid further increased the terror and chaos in the enemy ranks.
