Vietnamese bread among the world's best sandwiches

CNN updated the list of 24 best sandwiches in the world in 2024, including Vietnamese banh mi.

"Is there any food more humble yet beloved by everyone than the sandwich?" CNN asked, noting that there is hardly a country on the planet that does not have some kind of bread with filling inside.

To help narrow down your sandwich choices for your next trip, CNN has released the 24 best sandwiches in the world . What's unique about Asia is that only Vietnam's banh mi and Japan's katsu sando - a sandwich influenced by Western cuisine - made the list.

Referring to Vietnamese bread, CNN wrote: "A culinary relic of the French colonial period, the baguette has been adapted by Vietnamese people to their own tastes. Bread is now sold on food carts on most street corners in Ho Chi Minh City and across Vietnam, and is even widely loved beyond the country's borders.

The classic version is a banh mi filled with pork, ham, pickled carrots, herbs, cucumber, mayonnaise and other ingredients. Variations with tofu and chicken can also be found. The baguette is crispy, fresh, salty and completely suitable for all types of diners."
