In recent years, Son La province has experienced many types of natural disasters, causing damage to telecommunications infrastructure. In response to unusual weather conditions, the Department of Information and Communications has directed postal and telecommunications units and enterprises to prepare response plans, ensuring uninterrupted communication during the stormy season, serving the direction and administration of Party committees and authorities at all levels and the communication needs of the people.
In 2023, floods and landslides affected VNPT Son La's telecommunications infrastructure, causing 97 concrete and iron poles to break and tilt; 2 stations to leak; 317 terminals to be affected... Entering the storm season this year, VNPT Son La's staff, technicians, and direct workers have been proactively on duty and working regularly to ensure information security.
Mr. Tran Thanh Tung, Deputy Director of VNPT Son La, informed: In response to the 2024 storm season, VNPT Son La has developed a specific implementation plan; conducted periodic infrastructure inspections, promptly fixed problems that cause network insecurity; inspected the entire telecommunications equipment system, fire prevention and fighting, security equipment, lightning protection equipment... Supplemented and replaced old equipment and materials; for stations with leakage, reinforced and repaired; raised equipment at risk of flooding..., ensuring timely communication, serving the work of natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue.
Ms. Pham Thi Doan, Director of the Department of Information and Communications, said: The Department has directed telecommunications and postal enterprises in the area to strengthen measures to ensure information safety and security during the rainy and stormy season, develop plans to prevent and combat natural disasters according to the "4 on-site" motto, be ready to respond to all situations when incidents occur, contributing to minimizing damage caused by natural disasters. When incidents occur, mobilize forces and means of postal and telecommunications enterprises in the province to ensure absolute safety of communication information to serve the direction and operation of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee and the Command Committee for natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue at all levels.
Up to now, all Mobifone BTS stations in the province have completed maintenance work to ensure safety for the project during the rainy and stormy season. Mr. Dao Manh Cuong, MobiFone Northern Network Center, informed: The unit is managing 254 telecommunication stations, 147 fixed generators; 27 mobile generators. With the motto "4 on-site", the unit has synchronously deployed flood response activities according to plans, to keep the broadcasting stations safe; ready to support disaster prevention, control and search and rescue work in the locality; arrange human resources to closely follow the area, be on duty to monitor weather developments when there is prolonged heavy rain, ready to mobilize all resources to ensure the most stable service; promptly fix and handle errors and incidents caused by natural disasters.
Postal units have also prepared forces and vehicles, and developed plans to prevent and combat natural disasters for the postal network and postal service points. The provincial post office and Viettel Post Branch have proactively prepared to deal with storms, floods, and heavy rains, ensuring the safety of letters, packages, newspapers, magazines, etc. The unit mobilizes local forces to overcome when floods and landslides block the mail route; proactively assigns and arranges urgent standing forces and means of transport ready to promptly deliver urgent dispatches, serving the work of preventing and combating natural disasters and search and rescue in the area.
With the proactive plan to ensure communication during the rainy and stormy season of the Department of Information and Communications and telecommunications and postal enterprises, communication will be guaranteed in all situations when natural disasters occur, contributing to mitigating consequences and timely rescue.
