On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the success of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), the Khmer Times newspaper published an article by scholar Uch Leang - Acting Director of the Department of Asian-African and Middle Eastern Studies, Institute of International Relations, Royal Academy of Cambodia (RAC), President of the Association of Cambodian Alumni in Vietnam (CAVA), stating that the victory of the August Revolution and the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945 marked a historic turning point for the Vietnamese people, not only bringing the Vietnamese nation into a new era of freedom, independence and development, but also contributing to preserving the identity and spreading Vietnamese cultural values to the world .
In an article published on August 25, scholar Uch Leang emphasized that the victory under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh not only gave birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, but also strongly inspired the national liberation movement in the world, affirming the truth of the times: all nations have the right to independence, freedom and the pursuit of happiness.
From that moment on, the Vietnamese people entered a new era of freedom and independence, the people became masters of their country and destiny, and achieved great, comprehensive and historically significant achievements.

According to researchers at RAC, in the 80-year journey of building and defending the Fatherland, Vietnam has continuously enhanced its prestige and international position in both politics and diplomacy, becoming a reliable partner and an active, responsible member of the international community.
Along with that is the gradual economic reform, comprehensive innovation, transition to a socialist-oriented market economy; at the same time, opening up and integrating internationally, bringing the Vietnamese economy to strong development.
Along with economic development, over the past 80 years, Cambodian scholars believe that Vietnam has paid special attention to building and developing culture, considering culture as the spiritual foundation of society, the goal, the endogenous strength, and the important driving force for sustainable development.
Mr. Uch Leang commented that Vietnamese culture not only affirms its own identity domestically but also shines on the international stage, enhancing the country's image and position in the era of globalization.
Expert Uch Leang assessed that in terms of heritage, Vietnam's national cultural values have never been preserved and promoted so strongly. Vietnam currently has nearly 50 heritages recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), including cultural and natural heritages and global geoparks.
Through the combination of conservation and creation, the thousand-year-old cultural values of the nation have entered contemporary life in a vivid way, becoming an important soft resource for socio-economic development, instead of just remaining in museums.
Assessing the Vietnam-Cambodia bilateral relationship in recent years, the Chairman of CAVA affirmed that the relationship between the two countries continues to develop positively, demonstrated through regular high-level visits and many cooperation agreements that have been signed and implemented.
The author of the article has reviewed the bright spots in the friendly and cooperative neighborly relations between Vietnam and Cambodia: bilateral trade turnover has grown steadily, reaching more than 10 billion USD by 2024, reflecting the great potential for economic cooperation.
In addition to the economy, Vietnam has actively supported Cambodia in human resource training, providing scholarships for students, and cooperating in the fields of health, agriculture, and infrastructure development. In defense and security, the two sides maintain delegation exchanges, joint border patrols, and cooperation in security protection and maintaining order in border areas.
According to Mr. Uch Leang, regional experts assessed that strengthening the Vietnam-Cambodia comprehensive friendship and cooperation not only brings benefits to the two countries, but also contributes significantly to peace, stability and development in Southeast Asia, thereby affirming the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
RAC scholars believe that Vietnam and Cambodia can complement each other in development. Vietnam has a dynamic economy and abundant human resources, while Cambodia has strengths in agriculture, tourism and geostrategic location. Bilateral cooperation will create new opportunities, contributing to improving the lives of people in both countries.
Besides, good neighborly relations are also the foundation for the two countries to have a common voice in ASEAN issues, contributing to enhancing the region's position in the international arena./.
