Over the past 55 years, with more than 20,000 artifacts being preserved, the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts has gradually affirmed its brand as a national cultural institution.
A place that reflects the development stages of Vietnamese fine arts
Currently, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum is one of the national museums with a leading important position in preserving and promoting the value of the cultural and artistic heritage of the Vietnamese ethnic community, with more than 20,000 artifacts preserved, including nine national treasures. These artifacts reflect the development stages of the history of Vietnamese fine arts, including many works that are a source of great pride in the careers of generations of Vietnamese painters and sculptors.
Generations of staff of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum have been making constant efforts to fulfill the functions of research, collection, preservation, display, education and promotion of the value of fine arts heritage. Since its inception, the Museum has regularly organized field trips to relics in many localities across the country to collect more ancient fine arts artifacts, and at the same time collect works of sculpture, painting and graphic art at fine arts exhibitions and from personal collections of domestic and foreign painters and sculptors to supplement the treasure of modern, contemporary and modern fine arts.
In the past 5 years (2016-2021), the Museum has implemented and accepted 15 grassroots scientific research projects and two ministerial-level projects; organized many scientific seminars on fine arts and museum work; and published many publications in the field of fine arts. Generations of the Museum's interpreters and tour guides have worked hard to collect artifacts, develop outlines, and create attractive and solemn displays, acting as a "bridge" between the exhibition system and the public.
After 55 years of opening to visitors, educational activities at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum have gradually made important changes, from fixed-route explanations to thematic explanations, from single-event experiential educational activities to regular ones, making visitors' experiences more vivid and attractive.
"Creative space for children" was established and operated regularly, in addition, many mobile art experience activities organized outside the Museum space also received love and support. The Museum signed a cooperation agreement with a number of schools related to tourism and art majors, encouraging students to come to the Museum to study and experience. The number of students coming to the Museum increased by 20%, contributing to increasing the rate of domestic visitors from 17% (in 2016) to 30% (in 2019).
Proactive digital transformation in museum operations
The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum currently has a website https://vnfam.vn - the official communication channel, introducing and promoting its image and activities. This is a website designed to be modern, friendly, scientifically organized and easy to access. In addition to basic information about the Museum, visitors can admire hundreds of images, explore articles about authors and works, update information, video clips about exhibitions, events...
Since 2019, the Museum has used a fanpage on Facebook to create additional information channels and interact with the public. During the Covid-19 pandemic and social distancing in 2020, through the website and fanpage, the Museum has proactively introduced paintings praising doctors and medical staff who volunteered on the front lines, dedicated to caring for patients, or introduced a series of works on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of national reunification and the 130th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday. Posting meaningful works of art at the right time has attracted the attention of the press and media, contributing to creating positive social effects.
Identifying that the human factor always plays a decisive role in the existence and development of the Museum, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum has invested in training human resources, improving professional expertise, creating a favorable working environment, applying science and technology to optimize work quality, responding to social changes, this is always one of the focuses in the immediate and long-term strategy.
In addition, the Museum has been making efforts to enhance its recognition, renew its image and pay more attention to visitors' experiences, to gradually bring the Museum closer to the public, especially the young public.
2021 marks the 55th anniversary of the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts, a year that has witnessed dramatic changes in society in general and museum work in particular, with the impacts of science and technology, the Covid-19 pandemic...
The Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts is not outside the digital transformation trend, but has actively joined in applying modern technology to all professional activities of the museum such as: managing artifacts, storing library documents, communications and especially displaying and serving the public.
At the end of April, for the first time in the museum system in Vietnam, the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts launched iMuseum VFA - a multimedia explanation application (audio, images, articles) in eight languages (Vietnamese, English, French, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Italian and Spanish), assisting museum visitors online and in person.
The application quickly received many positive responses from visitors and experts and artists in the art world. This application is also evaluated by the tourism industry as helping travel companies save time and reduce dependence on on-site tour guides. This is a testament to the Museum's right direction in applying the benefits of information technology to innovate and improve quality.
On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts, due to the complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, the celebration activities took place online, many useful and interesting contents were continuously posted on the Museum's media channels to record the proud milestone of 55 years and widely promote to the public, such as: Introducing the architecture of the Museum building; Introducing painter Nguyen Do Cung; Research and collection activities; Exhibition and education work; Introducing the exhibition "Connection"; Center for Preservation and Restoration of Fine Arts Works; Introducing 3DTour Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts; Introducing national treasures...
The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, with its proud 55-year milestone, is making strong strides to continue its journey of preserving and honoring the values of national cultural and artistic heritage, affirming its position and value in the Vietnamese museum system.
