World and Vietnam Newspaper celebrates 35 years since its first issue

On the afternoon of December 25, in Hanoi, The World and Vietnam Newspaper, the press agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 35th anniversary of its first issue (November 29, 1989 - November 29, 2024).

Comrades: General Secretary To Lam; President Luong Cuong; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh ; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's External Relations Commission Le Hoai Trung sent congratulatory flower baskets.

Attending the event were former Politburo member, former Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem; Party Central Committee members: Le Quoc Minh, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, President of Vietnam Journalists Association; Ngo Dong Hai, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department; along with many leaders, former leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and generations of journalists from The Gioi and Viet Nam Newspapers.

Comrade Nguyen Quy Trong, Editor-in-Chief of Hai Duong Newspaper, representatives of leaders of a number of central and local news agencies and newspapers attended the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized that despite its modest resources, The Gioi and Viet Nam Newspaper not only maintains a quality print newspaper with in-depth foreign policy articles, but also creates an online newspaper in Vietnamese and English that is confident enough to stand shoulder to shoulder with many well-known newspapers that have long been established. Along with that are professional non-periodical publications with their own identity and mark.

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang requested that The Gioi and Viet Nam Newspaper need to make corresponding changes, both accompanying and contributing to the common work of the ministry and completing their own tasks, making the newspaper increasingly popular domestically as well as internationally.

Facing the new era, the era of national growth, foreign affairs work will have to be more proactive, more diligent, and more creative to meet the tasks assigned by the Party and State and the expectations of the people.

As the only newspaper of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs requested that The World and Vietnam Newspaper need to make corresponding changes, both accompanying and contributing to the common work of the Ministry and completing its own tasks, making the newspaper increasingly popular domestically and internationally. These are two difficult tasks, but they are not opposed but closely related. Completing one task well will create conditions for the other task to be completed and vice versa.

In his speech at the ceremony, Editor-in-Chief of The World and Vietnam Newspaper Nguyen Truong Son gave an overview of the newspaper's formation and development process.

Born in the early years of the renovation process with the name of International Relations Magazine, the unit has continuously grown to adapt to the new situation, the increasingly high requirements, transformed into a weekly newspaper with the name International Weekly, then International Newspaper. To meet the information needs of the period of Vietnam's deep international integration, International Newspaper changed its name to World and Vietnam Newspaper.
