Việt NamViệt Nam08/07/2024

(QBĐT) - In order to develop biodiversity and effectively use medicinal resources, Le Quy Don High School (Bo Trach) has successfully built a model medicinal plant garden for teaching. Thereby, it actively contributes to the protection, restoration and development of medicinal plants, conservation and preservation of genetic resources of precious medicinal plants; at the same time, expanding to schools and localities throughout the province.

According to research and proven in practice, Quang Binh is considered a land with rich natural medicinal resources, diverse in types and medicinal uses; including many precious medicinal plants... However, natural medicinal resources are increasingly depleted, many species are facing the risk of extinction, cultivated medicinal plants are being narrowed or developing spontaneously and unbalanced. Faced with this situation, on a scientific basis, Le Quy Don High School has carried out the task of: Researching and selecting a number of medicinal plants, building a medicinal plant garden for teaching.

Deployed since October 2023, up to now, Le Quy Don High School has designed and built a medicinal plant garden in the prescribed list; conducted field surveys, selected and collected seedlings and seeds, selected locations for model implementation; planned the garden, improved the soil, applied base fertilizer, applied lime, prepared crops; covered with tarpaulin, made trellises, planted trees, sowed seeds, and staked vines; installed irrigation systems; planted medicinal plants according to the explanatory notes and planted additional medicinal plants in the list of medicinal plants of the Ministry of Health . Through the process of experimental care, monitoring and evaluation, it shows that the growth, adaptability and pest control ability of medicinal plants are basically developing well.

“Currently, in Bo Trach as well as Quang Binh, the natural sources of medicinal plants are almost exhausted. Based on the practical situation, the task force has devoted itself to building a medicinal plant garden model on campus. From there, it both preserves the genetic resources of precious medicinal plants as well as effectively serves students in working, studying and experiencing. Through this model, parents, students, medical staff, oriental medicine associations in the district, province... can refer to the source of medicinal plant seeds to grow in their families and localities. With the rich quantity and variety of medicinal plants, the model can also provide seeds, develop and expand to localities, schools, and medical stations throughout the province", shared teacher Vo Van Hung, Le Quy Don High School.

With an area of 1,200m2, the medicinal herb garden model grows over 500 plants with 55 medicinal herbs of high value, capable of adapting well to ecological conditions in Quang Binh, belonging to 4 groups: climbing plants, tall woody plants, short woody plants, and shrubs.

According to teacher Nguyen Phu Huu, Principal of Le Quy Don High School, from the initial results, in the coming time, the school will continue to promote to students the purpose and practical significance of implementing the medicinal plant garden; strengthen scientific research among students, staff, teachers and employees of the school. At the same time, the school uses the garden to implement some contents and teaching activities in the educational program...

“In order for the model to be replicated and promoted effectively, Le Quy Don High School hopes that all levels of the industry, especially the Department of Science and Technology, will continue to pay attention and invest funds... so that the school can implement a number of projects; especially renovating, upgrading, and repairing the garden, entrances, and fences surrounding the medicinal plant garden...”, Principal of Le Quy Don High School Nguyen Phu Huu expressed his wish.

“The medicinal plant garden model serving teaching at Le Quy Don High School has initially made a positive contribution to the protection, restoration and development of medicinal plants, and the conservation of genetic resources of precious medicinal plants... Immediately after successfully implementing the task, the model will be replicated for people, schools, and medical stations throughout the province and can provide medicinal plant varieties for the market if properly invested. Thereby, contributing to raising awareness in the community in the conservation, development, and effective use of medicinal plants; at the same time, creating jobs for many workers in fields such as: Cultivation, processing, transportation and business related to medicinal plants...", Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology Phan Thanh Nghiem affirmed.
