Teachers of Chieng Cang Secondary School educate students about revolutionary traditions at the Muong Hung Banyan Tree historical site.
From National Highway 4G, we crossed the suspension bridge over the Ma River to reach the center of Muong Hung commune. The first mark by the river is a large ancient banyan tree with a wide canopy, showing a strong vitality that has survived over time. Next to it is a memorial stele for the martyrs of Muong Hung commune who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for national liberation. The banyan tree is a testament to the crimes of French colonialism against the ethnic people of Muong Hung commune during the period of 1947 - 1952.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Phuc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Hung Commune, turned the pages of the history book of the commune Party Committee, and informed: In 1946, the French colonialists recaptured Son La , they and their henchmen frantically suppressed the resistance movement in Muong Hung, searched and arrested cadres and those who participated and supported the resistance. They arrested and killed 16 key cadres, 9 soldiers and 365 innocent people with many savage torture methods right at the banyan tree, on the banks of the Ma River.
With the spirit of patriotism and revolutionary enlightenment, the people of Muong Hung still wholeheartedly followed the Party and the revolution, together with the main force troops, achieved many outstanding feats, destroyed many enemies, protected revolutionary bases, liberated Muong Hung, and freed the people from the yoke of the French colonialists and the French. The historical relic of the Muong Hung Banyan Tree - where the French colonialists executed revolutionary soldiers and the people of Muong Hung - has become a testament to the crimes of the French colonialists and their henchmen.
Muong Hung commune was newly established on the basis of merging two communes Muong Hung and Chieng Cang (old). Proud of its heroic homeland, rich in historical and cultural traditions, the Party Committee and the commune government have promoted and raised people's awareness in preserving heritage. Mobilizing people to participate in preserving relics through practical actions, such as: Protecting and regularly cleaning the environment around the relics; mobilizing all resources to renovate and embellish the relics.
Every year, the commune organizes cultural activities on holidays, New Year... relics, contributing to preserving cultural and historical values and promoting them to tourists, promoting the development of cultural tourism ; directing mass organizations to coordinate with schools to promote traditional education, learn about the value of relics for union members, youth and students, arousing the spirit, responsibility, pride, and appreciation of traditional cultural values of the nation.
In recent years, Chieng Cang Secondary School, Muong Hung Commune has focused on educating students about the value of the Muong Hung Banyan Tree historical relic, through team activities, flag-salute activities, integrated with history and literature subjects, and experiential activities at historical and cultural relics. Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hoa, Vice Principal of the school, said: During the summer of this year, the school coordinated with the commune's Youth Union to clean up the relic site, offer incense at the memorial stele and give gifts to families with meritorious services, arousing pride and love for history and national culture and attracting students to participate in protecting historical and cultural relics in the commune.
Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh, an 8A student at Chieng Cang Secondary School, confided: I am very proud to be born and raised in Muong Hung land with a rich revolutionary tradition. We learned about the Muong Hung Banyan Tree historical site in lectures and experiential activities organized by the school. This is the "red address" to educate us about revolutionary traditions.
Deeply aware of the value and importance of the Muong Hung Banyan Tree historical relic, the Party Committee and the communal government continue to propagate to cadres, party members and people, especially the young generation, about the tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source" of the nation; raise awareness and responsibility of people in preserving and conserving local historical and cultural relics. Encourage and create favorable conditions for organizations and individuals to contribute and sponsor activities to protect and promote the value of the relic.
